Are there any AC power cable plugs for DIY?

I have a custom cable that needs a standard AC 110V power cable *plug* on one end. There are three wires inside so it'll work just fine. The problem is the only way for me to add one now is to cut off an existing head and solder the three wires. You can imagine the problems with safety and reliability here. The weak point will be at the cut and anytime I move or flex the cable, it might break a joint.

Are there any AC plugs that somehow open up and allow you to solder the 3 wires in?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hospital grade plugs with screw terminals are good for line cords. I use these:

Parts Express sells them http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=110-403

Detailed Instructions from Parts Express

Can't wait? Home Depot often has a few Hospital Grade plugs in stock.

Why do you want to solder the wires?

The Marinco plug above is very nice-sounding and easy to work with, with screw-in terminals for wires. Very safe, and there is sturdy strain relief at the plug's neck for wires.

Or, you can go to your local Home Depot or Lowe's electric section. They have some pretty nice Leviton plugs that works well.

Look for Pass and Seymour at your local Menards or electrical supply. They make a very nice AC plug (5266X ? can't remember the exact number).
