Welly, thanks for the tips. Those are some good suggestions. Two questions, though. Why should I pick a neutral color, like clear or my own skin tone? Also, why do I need two cords?

Color/cord options for UE-5C? - Page 2

Personally I really liked the idea of color options for UE products other than clear or skin tones. I wanted to avoid the hearing aid look. With my blue ones, no one would mistake them for hearing aids! That would also be true for black ones. As for the two cords option -- why not get the short one first. You can always order longer one later if you decide you need one.

Phils...lots of good advice being given so far...I agree all around.
Hearing aids are usually tan or flesh tone. I have the clear/clear cord and think they look very "tech-cool".
Also, as an aside...you can actually use non-scented baby wipes in place of the tech wipes and save a little cash. They work, have the same ingredients, and I've gotten the verbal OK from Jerry Harvey @ UE.
Good luck, hope all goes smooth.
P.S.- I don't get Stereophile...what was the summation of the UE5c review (other than just liking them)? Are copies available via internet? Thanks.

Wolfen: Do you know if it is okay to use the wipe on the cord as well? I have heard the cord loses lots of the initial shine after a few weeks.
EDIT: More importantly, do the wipes work well to restore shine?

His verdict? "Recommended. Highly recommended." John Atkinson simply LOVED the UE5c.

Go get the December 2004 Stereophile at your local Barnes & Noble bookstore. Read his brief review and decide whether the UE product line is right for you. I trust his ears and experience as much as my own. I think he is the "go to man" when it comes to future UE product reviews. What we read this month was just a preview of future UE reviews (hush hush).

The cost of a 46" cable is only $28 which will be not far off the shipping charges if you later decide you want the extra cable. Better to order at the same time and then you can switch the cables over as desired.

Phil,
Look forward to your thoughts. Did Welly Wu post his review? I did a quick search but didn't find one...

Wolfen -- You should definitely get a copy of the Stereophile mag. Among others things Atkinson reports on a live classical piano performance that he recorded himself and then listened to on the UE5c -- he says it sent shivers down his spine because it was so much like being there live. Really, his endorsement is stunning -- you'll love the piece! He plans to review the UE10Pro soon too, so that should be fun too.
No one can accuse John Atkinson of not being an audiophile, that's for sure!

Here's kind of a funny story regarding getting my impressions made. I contacted a local audiologist that had been recommended, and when I explained to the woman who answered the phone what I wanted, she confirmed that they could to it. We discussed further some of the particulars and when I was asking her if she would give me the completed impressions to send off to Ultimate Ears, she said no, they don't do that anymore. Instead, they now send it directly to one of two companies that they use to make the earpieces, because they have had problems when they gave the impressions to the customer to ship. I told her that this was an ear monitor for use with a portable music player and that I needed it to go Ultimate Ears, the company that will be making the monitor, and she said: "Oh no, that's not who we use." We use "_________" (not Sensaphonics or Westone, BTW, but some company I've never heard of). After further discussion, and after I explained to her that this was kind of like being measured for a Toyota and having the measurements shipped off to General Motors, she told me that she would have to check with her boss, and that she would have him call me to see what they could do. I'm still waiting. Guess I'll try another audiologist.
