Nasty way to connect an EMU into Pinkie. - 1/4 to RCA connections!

I am contemplating an experiment with my computer as a source. Since the final layout in payola is going to be around 100 bucks, I don't want to be in the position to buy another pricey interconnect just because the 0404 (the soundcard i am aiming for) only has a 1/4 analog out.

So here's my solution, since none of my interconnects is long enough to snake from the ground (where the noisy PC is tucked away) to the top of my desk (where my amp is, safe and sound):

1)plug a Grado Extension Headphone Cable into the Emu. http://www.toddthevinyljunkie.com/pr...uct.php?id=250

2)Plug one of these Rat Shack jobbies into the end of the ext. cable: http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...t%5Fid=274-893

3)Plug my audioquest or element IC into the rat shack adapter, other end into the Solo.

Too much junk? Would degrade the signal too much? Should I just shell out some cash for a real 1/4 to rca cable? or would even a simple rat shack 1/4 to rca cable sound better than my frankenstein solution?

thanks for the advice, since i won't be in the position to know if the 1/4 to rca nice aftermarket cable is better until i blindly buy one.

the 0404 is dual mono so you can' use stereo adaptors and wires like you mentioned. you need two of these http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...t%5Fid=274-884 and then use regular interconnects.

time to go home and check how long my ICs are tonite...

if they are too short either i bring my noisy ugly pc up to my desk, and buy those rat shack adapter plugs ($8), or get a pair of 2 meter MONSTER CABLES ($20) that look like they have the right connections...

You just have to buy a 1/4" mono to RCA adapters.
Ratshack sells them in pair for $4 i think.

And also, I do have a pair of 5feet 1/4" to RCA IC made with canare starquad for sell .

Actually they are $5 a pair for the nickel-plated ones.

I notice more of a difference with different ICs now than with my Terratec despite the extra adapters and cabling added to the 0404, so I guess the adapters aren't doing too much harm.

BLEH. a pox on more adapters in the chain! I'm going for uncle wai's starquads. thanks gang!

Custom built cables are definately the way to go. If you can find a Starquad cable the full length you need it would probably be better than using extensions. I am sure someone here would be willing to build you one for close to the cost of parts.

i just realized that even if i get the rat shack adapters, that yep none of my current ICs can reach. i'd like to keep the computer on the ground. so unclewai is hooking me up with 5 foot starquads that should do the trick - thanks Unclewai!
