CORDA HA-2 MkII SE vs CORDA PREHEAD

Thread Starter
CORDA HA-2 MkII SE is more expensive than CORDA PREHEAD, is Prehead still better?
The Prehead is "only" a HA-2 with added preamp capabilities. Sonically, both originals should sound the same. So the upgraded HA-2 Mk2 will probably sound better

It also has a more powerful output to drive phones such as the AKG K1000s.

Quote from the Meier Audio website: "The CORDA HA-2 is a derivative of the PREHEAD. It offers nearly the same sound quality for a more humble price."

Yes, but he talks about the HA-2 MkII SE.

Dear headfellows

The HA-2 indeed is a derivative of the PREHEAD and they both sound very equal.

The same way the HA-2 MkII SE is a derivative of the PREHEAD MkII SE and sounds very similar. It has a better sound than the PREHEAD. On the other hand the PREHEAD has more options.

Sometimes it's hard to have so many choices, isn't it!

Let me get this straight, the HA-2 MK SE has better sound than the Prehead MK II SE?

Now, this is good info.

I'm sure he meant that the HA-2 MK SE has better sound than the original Prehead (not the Prehead MK II SE).

Deleted as it was jibberish

That is indeed what Jan meant.

In order of sonic excellence (best to least, although I have the 'least' sonically excellent in this list and it is stunningly good!) my take on this is as follows:

Prehead MKII SE < Prehead MKII < HA-2 MKII < Prehead MKI < HA-2 MKI

Only thing I am not sure about. Does the HA-2 MKII SE go in the list between the Prehead MKII SE and the Prehead MKII or between the Prehead MKII and the HA-2 MKII? That is to say, if it is very close to the Prehead MKII SE then is it a better amp (albeit with less features) than the Prehead MKII?

The Prehead II SE is less than the Prehead II, which is less than the HA-2 II, which is less than the Prehead I, which is less than the HA-2??

I read that as meaning "The HA-2 is the top of the line." Are you sure you ment to use a less than sign?

You guys....

1. Prehead MKII SE
2. HA-2 MKII SE
3. Prehead
4. HA-2

I believe that's the correct qualitative order where the number 1 and 2 are very similar to each other sonically as 3 and 4 are to each other.

I'm Sure What He Meant Was:

Prehead MKII SE > Prehead MKII > HA-2 MKII > Prehead MKI > HA-2 MKI

I miss my HA-2 Jan!
Oops

Got the < the wrong way round so yes, reverse it. Prehead MKII SE best, HA-2 MKI least best

Neil, my question still stands though. Is the HA-2 MKII SE sonically superior then the Prehead MKII (albeit lacking the preamp capability), since Jan said the sound is very similar to the Prehead MKII SE.

Simon

Hmm, methinks Jan needs to rename these to something easier for us to type
post #15 of 28
Neil you left out the HA-2 MKII SE. If I read it correctly, the HA-2 MKII SE should sound like the top of the line Prehead MKII SE, making it better sonically than all previous iterations of HA-2 and preheads.
