Stereo is yucky...I think.

We just got that. (Not my decision. I tried to get a component system, but family decided for this.) My dad saw it at the store, looked at it for 10 minutes, heard it for 5, listened to salesperson jibbajabba, and bought it.

They suck IMO. Weak audio reproduction (surprise, surprise). Sounds sorta like my 2.1 computer speaker set with a tad bit of refinition. Well, enough to impress my dad to buy it (not an insult). Headphone output is sorta like a portable player. My parents still think its sound better than our Aiwa minisystem. Its sorta dry, but then again I prefer warm. The store people obviously have it loud so it sounds large.

Worst half-grand spent...

Well, at least it's not your money exactly. In a few years you can probably build your own stereo system, and I'm sure you'll choose something better.

LOL, I went home recently to visit my parents to find they had set up a Bose Lifestyle home theater. Noooooooooooooooo.

Of course my Dad commented on how they didn't sound as good as his older Boston Acoutics floor standing monsters.

I feel bad for you, dude. I had to put up with Radio Shack equipment when I was a kid and my parents wouldn't even let me buy a stereo system using MY OWN money because they didn't want the living room "cluttered".

Alas, after much fighting, I got a Sony receiver and a JVC CD player (I was a kid and this was hi-fi to me). My parents told me there was no difference in the sound (there was and it was better than the crap they had).

After I moved out, my parents would try to make me feel guilty about spending money on audio equipment. Alas, now, whenever they come over, they always make it a point to sit and listen to music on my system, which they say sounds marvelous.

So, give it time. By the time you're 35, your parents will begin to appreciate your audiophilia.

I'm probably never going to be like most of you with your R10's and Blockheads, but I'll into somewhere Mid-Fi-ish.

And for the record, I don't mind that my dad buys what he wants... when I know something more (im assuming, and i pretty sure im right), I WANT to help. Whenever they want to/ I want to get something, I search for the best price (that will also help the deciding factor). Like computers, I'm always the one getting us out of it. I was just hoping to let my parents put their money into something that would be good.

Those Brookstone salespeople (marketing) really tick me off. They are soo elitist (heads up, you're not B&O). Instead of saying "Lifetime Warranty", they go into this eloquent mode where they say "we warrant this as long as you expect the product to work, 10, 15 years..." I think Brookstone TRIES to be the 'poor man's Bang and Olufsen' (thats one for the diary!). MY parents agree that they kinda the above, but in the end they just want the product.

Man...my $25 Altec Lansing XA3001 (30 watts RMS peak (yeah, right)) brings way more "thunderous" power than the 40 watt they give.

Alright, I'm done venting and all. Sorry you had to bear through that... (you could've skipped it...but...)

BTW: They think $15 is huge money for me on audio. Note: I'm allowed to spend money on everything else (practically) in larger amounts...but I dont spend alot ever.

It does come with a small sub. A horrible 40 watt. (Its not the wattage, its the sound.)
