Going crazy. Why is this so difficult

I first started off looking for a pair of sub $100 headphones, but soon became addicted to this site . Even worse, I’ve lost my mind trying to find the right cans for me. So, I'm giving up and leaving it to you guys/gals. Below are cans I'm interested in. The one recommend the most is the one I'm buying.

A little about me:
I am very picky about sound. I don't like something harsh, or too laid back (i.e not bright and not dark). I do like bass, but it must be fairly deep, tight/punchy, and balance with the rest of the frequencies. I listen to everything except rap and country. I don't care about isolation or anything else for that matter except sound quality.

Source:
Ipod w/Cmoy. Also, will be building diy tube amp for home.

Choose for me from these:
Beyerdynamic DT880
Beyerdynamic DT531
Senn HD600
Senn HD580
Alessandro MS-2
Grado SR225
Audio-Technica A900 (but I hear that they are bright??)

Thanks in advance for your help!

Dude i did the same thing. My eggo D77 started to short out in the cable and i didnt think it was repairable so i started a quest for a replacement. Here i am with about 30 different pair of headphones PLUS 6 pair of eggos. Ive replaced them and some....

You have an interest in some nice cans, i havnt heard any of those in yoru list so i cant really help you. They are all high end cans that i hear alot about on this site. You for got one that should be considered, the A900

These two statements are somewhat contradicting. Don't bother to listen to the most recommended as that could just be more people own those. Just try them for yourself.

My problem is that I can't find anyone that carries these cans in my area. So I have to go off your recommendations.

Aaaaaaand where is your area? Just curious, because you might be near another head-fi victim that owns some of these cans.

Based on your description, I would recommend the DT880. They do many things very well, and are just plain musical.

I would also advise against tube amps. At least read up on the theory a bit first.

I would just get a bunch from an online vendor which lets you audition for a length of time. You'll be saving yourself time and money in the long run. If you are picky then going by somebody else's ears is just a guess.

If you can, ditch the ipod as a critical source. I know many people love their DAPs and all, but even a $300 source (be it deck or soundcard) will do wonders. With any of those phones and a nice tube amp, a good source is a must.

Anyone in Idaho willing to help me out?

Agreed, but the DT880s don't rock. They just don't. Some people also find them dry and boring, not to mention analytical (I don't, of course )

On the same token, the grados/alessandros don't do some electronic or orchestral music very well due to their limited soundstage.

SilverCans, if you can really get some DT531s, grab them NOW and don't look back. Otherwise, I may suggest you looking into the new Beyer line (DT440, DT660), or analyze your music preferences and see what you listen to most (and therefore, what's most important to you in a headphone).
