Inexpensive cables from preamp to amp

Thread Starter
My first seperates system is on the way and I need cables to go between the amp and pre. I pretty much blew my budget, so I'd like to pick up three pairs of IC's for $100 to $150.
Right now I'm leaning toward Outlaw or Audioquest Sidewinder, or maybe TecNec SC Audio Cables from markertek. Any thoughts suggestions?
Thanks,
g

Gover SR MKiis. I am upgrading to seperates from my unico in the near future and will be using grovers to link pre to amp, and empresses to link source to pre.

They sr mkiis are cheap and very, very good.

Radio Shack Fusion - they run about $35 each, and are a screaming bargain. Really very nice cables - way better than what anyone would expect from RatShack. Plus they are available most everywhere, and are easily returned if you don't like them.

Highly recommended as a budget cable.

I detest the connectors on the outlaw cables. Otherwise they are ok.

My personal preference is diy with Canare mic cable and Neutrik connectors. I think that the connectors are $10/pair and the cable is around $0.30/ft. Canare connectors are half the price of Neutrik, but not quite as nice.

I just got a pair of headphile silver cpu cables, and have to say they sound very nice.

If you can solder, you can get the same cable Kimber uses from Handmade electronics for pretty cheap, and can make a nice set or three (http://www.hndme.com/storekimberwirepsb.html).

FYI. I am probably in the minority here, but I dislike outlaw ICs. They had medicore resolution and extension and were just sort of muddy to my ears. If you're looking to stay at the lower end of your budget try DH Labs BL-1s, HGA Silver lace, used Acoustic Zens (the wows would be in your budget), etc.

Ask Grover about a demo of the SR iis though, his cables were good enough for me to sell off much more expensive ones and put the cash into other parts of my system... definitely worth checking out

My next cable will probably be Element.

I dumped expensive Nordost Red Dawn & Audience Au24 in favor of inexpensive $75 Signal cable with a small loss of refinement and an increase in excitment. http://www.signalcable.com/

"When I hear what is being done at sane prices by companies like Signal, River, and now Element, I have to question why anybody would spend an extraordinary amount of money on wire. The Element cables are so inexpensive that a marketing consultant would probably advise the company to raise their prices in order to be taken seriously. Don't fall for that more-expensive-is-better jive. Sometimes, more expensive is just more expensive."

Take a look over on Audiogon. There are always good cables there either from manufacturers or members at a fraction of the original price.
