Thread Starter
i decided to try out power conditioning and bought a VH audio 'the hot box' with filter upgrade for (outlet + power conditioning on a budget) around 266, based on audiogon recommendations.

its getting late and i have morning classes tomorrow so i will be brief, now i feel i have just upgraded my source or amp , more significant than all the IC and PC rolling. the huge soundstage, wow, feels like the audiogeek nitrogens and i am using larry's silver cables . another suprise is the hot box has cured the muddy bass problem of the headroom crossfeed . the bass is tight, fast and clear even with crossfeed ON, no kidding, the hot box has improved system dynamics by a lot. still the apogee dac is still not as exciting as the benchmark, but hey its getting close and without the harshness .

now i have hooked up my cheapie fender bass amp to the hot box and result is encouraging so far.

Congrats! I greatly enjoy the improvement power conditioning makes to my system as well.

It has been so long since I have been without my admittedly rudimentary power conditioner that I can not remember life before it.

These are basically my impressions as well

Have just installed power condition my self today and went for the Trichords Powerblock 500 at £300. It has been a 2 1/2 week wait as they are built to order. I was looking to get one of the Isotek main filters, but the guy at Stoneaudio pushed me in the direction of the Powerblock. It seems cheaper then the Mini Sub GII but the power block only has two sockets, you would then have to buy there Powerblock 1000 if you then want power amps ect, which in the end would cost you a lot more. Only needing to plug in a DAC and PSU power supply for my amp this is a cheaper and apparently better sonic option for me.

I can not compare with the Isoteks but I was reassured the Powerblock is a lot more bang for your bucks. Have to say first impassions are pretty staggering you can defiantly hear what you are paying for. I have just brought a pair of Grado RS-1 and started a thread about my expertises with these cans, I was finding them a bit hard to listen too made my ears hurt. Now with the Powerblock plugged in they have smoothed out in a very dramatic way, seems to have taken the digital edge off the DAC. I tell you these cans now really rock, separation, speed, bass and soundstage have all improved things seem a lot more musicale. One of the main things I have noticed is the music comes from a very silent sound stage not a bit of hiss.

If you go to the bottom of this page there is a review review said a lot better then I could put, I would not ague with him.

Truly amazed, powers were its at

right now everything in my rig is conditioned up - the tushi has a ONEAC 1102 power conditioner on it (no filter) and the pinkie's PSU now has a power and line conditioner on it. both are tagged onto a power strip. i can't remember life without it now. one note - before the solo's psu was altered i stuck it on the ONEAC with the 3960 - and the sound was muddy. i took it off and the signal improved. too many things (or anything but the source) plugged into one conditioner degraded the signal. but now everything is peachy.

I thought the OneAC's jacks were all on separate circuits

It has to do with the amount of amps your components are drawing from your oneac. I use a 12amp oneac for my cd player and 30w power amp with no detremental effects to the soundstage/dynamics. Only positive effects.

Biggie.

I see... well I'll PM you some more questions so that I dont crap this thread.

I'm glad to hear that it has worked for you. The AC power is the true "source" and better power means better everything after it.

$266 is not really budget though as you could buy many tweaks for that price but this product seems good for a prebuilt.

I also believe in separating things and having more filters. If you could DIY, you could get 3 $60 monster PC1000s and extra parts for that price and tweak them. That would ultimately be better in the end.
