KSC-35 mods/improvements

Has anyone done anything to their '35s that improved their durability? (For their intended use, which is working out and riding public transport, I'm satisfied with their sound.)

Mine recently broke -- one of the leads on the right earphone snapped off. I resoldered it, and realised that the connection is not very durable. Just a dab of solder and a single loop of the the wire around two little pegs. I'm thinking of getting some potting compound or even just plain silcone caulk and filling the space under the little plastic cover over the leads with it. Can anyone think why that might be a bad idea?

Of your two options, I'd go with the silicone caulk- but I really have little experience in such things and am truly just talking out of my butt, and I'm no expert caulker. But, have fun.
