Linn Classik - Page 2

If I had the money I'd dump the Kan and buy the Classik with a pair of Dynaudio Audience 52.

But for those looking into a bedroom/den/2nd hifi system which sounds great and represents good value (and is a more affordable than the Classik or Cyrus) please look into

Denon UDM-30/UDM-50 w/ Mission speakers (300/350GBP)
Yamaha Pianocraft E-150/E250 (300/350 GBP)
Panasonic SC-PM03 or SC-PM25 (also has cassette) (120/180GBP)

All shockingly good value for money and although they're not HIFI, they're good clean fun-fi.

I think the product concept is seriously flawed. I can see getting a high quality integrated (I own some) since they are mature products and technology here will not be changing much. But the CD section of the Linn Classik will be hopelessly outdated in a couple years making the entire product outdated. This is why other high end companies don't have a product like this.

I can see if space is a real problem the compact size is appealing,
but usually in this type of enviroment you will not use stereo for critical listening, mostly for background music and there are many
other systems from mass market names much cheaper than $1500 and also look very cool.

If you really want to do critical listening get integrated with seperate CDP.

What's wrong with the CD section of the Classik?

I have the Linn Tukan speakers, one up from the Kan. I think they've either been discontinued or changed, but I think they're great speakers for the size. I use them with a Rega Mira amp.

DarkAngel: "This is why other high end companies don't have a product like this." This is not entirely correct, I fear. I know at least one more exception: http://www.taelektroakustik.de/eng/ta2/k_system/k_1.htm - and Cyrus' Quattro heads for a similar direction.

tktran: Well, in case you'd go for SACD or DVD-A in the near or middle distant future, the CD section would be outdated. At least, that's how I understand DarkAngel's comment.

Greetings from Munich!

Manfred / lini

P.S.: Nevertheless, it's really surprising what Linn can do with some cheap power-chips.
