Need advice: How to build an outdoor speaker that will play loud for hours.

Back again and a big thank-you to all for the excellent advice on my previous query!

I want to build some speakers for outdoors which will be driven by car stereo(Kenwood, 25watt/ch, poss. add power amp to 100watt/ch). They need to be fairly compact, such as in the range of the ones I am now using (17"H x 8"W x 12"D) although I would be willing to go a bit larger. Main thing, they need to play loud, have plenty of bass response, and play for long periods of time! They don't need to be audiophile quality, so the use of horns is a consideration.

Can I use something as small as an 8" woofer to get the job done? I'd like some rec's and also on where to buy the components. I've been in touch with Madisound and they are quite helpful. Thanks in advance for your help!

Careful Fish. There're a lot of people here that think horns are God's own gift to high end audio.

With the possible exception of the big Klipsch horns, I'm not one of them.

Need a lot more information for any recommedations. My advice would be to audition some good bookshelf speakers and find what you like. Then buy it. Since you're not looking for high end sound, you might want to try some mass market places like Circuit City or Best Buy.

Oops. Whatever the equivalent is where you are.
