Beyond The Realms Of Death

So 70's and ballad-ish but it still slays me.

"Victim of Changes" - the live version from UNLEASHED IN THE EAST.

I know there was probably a lot of overdubs here, but it's still one of their finest moments.

ET, you have the right album but the wrong song

Exciter from album Stained Class is the pinnacle of JP twin guitar attack, sounds wicked even today.

Best album you ask?
Close between Stained Class and Painkiller, but I will go with Painkiller.

Favourite song is the same as jar's -- "Victim of Changes" (technically, it's two songs: "Whiskey Woman"/"Victim of Changes", but their record label made them call it one). I am not going to declare a version -- both the one from Sad Wings of Destiny and the one from Unleashed in the East are excellent, hard to choose between the two.

DA -- you are close in your choices of albums, but you ommitted a couple: it's really a three-way tie between Stained Class, Sin After Sin and Sad Wings of Destiny. Painkiller doesn't even come close (except for one track). Hell Bent for Leather is a strong contender for what follows.

Actually it's the vocal attack after the 2 minute mark that kicks my butt -

"Yeah! I've left the world behind
I'm safe here in my mind
Free to speak with my own kind
This is my life, this is my life
I'll decide not you

Keep the world with all its sin
It's not fit for livin' in
Yeah! I will start again
It can take forever, and ever, and ever
And ever, but I'll still win."

#2 for vocal use 'White Heat, Red Hot'

I've always loved "Electric Eye". Playing that simple repetitive lead-in riff on a friends guitar, (way back when), was always a little kick for somebody like me who doesn't play alot.

This is a tough one. I really like Painkiller, though it seems to stretch itself out a minute or two too long. Unleashed in the East's Hell Bent for Leather is great, but not their best. Seeing them at Ozzfest this year, the best song seemed to be Breaking The Law, though the crowd's instant fist/headbanging and singing to the song added to the feel of it. I can't decide... name those 3 in any order and it'd fit as my favorite song by them.

Hard to call, hmmmm.... if I had to have only one, it'd be Beyond the Realms of Death, as well. Great lyrics, atmosphere, and the second solo is just unreal yet so emotional.

Other contenders:
Killing Machine
Screaming for Vengeance
Ram It Down
Painkiller
Nightcrawler
Cathedral Spires

I just played Painkiller album twice on my full stereo........still say it is thier greatest acheivement. Remastered sound absolutely shreds.

This is the most aggressive high octane album in the JP catalog, the pedal to the metal right from track 1, yesssssssss.

Sweet. I think it's one of the best Metal albums ever created. Those guitar solo's are incredible and this is coming from someone who usually skips over guitar solo's.

No, like Painkiller. Like Painkiller a lot. Don't loveloveLOVE Painkiller the way I do those other four albums I mentioned.

Try playing it without "Night Crawler", and then tell me how good an album it is.

And to be fair, I'll play it again, myself. It's probably better than I remember.

I always used to slightly look down on Painkiller as not as good as earlier albums because JP had a couple weaker albums that preceded it. But over time I have changed my mind, especially after getting remastered version, and now see it as the crowning acheivement of JP catalog.......there are monster tracks here:
-painkiller
-metal meltdown
-leather rebel
-nightcrawler
-all guns blazing
-hammer and anvil
-battle hymn

I will have to amend my first response here.......best song is Metal Meltdown (agree with BHD )
