Yep Millenium Actress and Toyko Godfathers are both anime. Same anime guy who did Perfect Blue in fact. Give them a watching!

Studio Ghibli's works, defintiely. Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind and Mononoke Hime are what I consider the best works by Miyazaki, but the one that I really will love forever is My Neighbor Totoro. I simply have not seen another movie, animated or otherwise, with such charm.

And Totoro is just awesome:

Yeah, Fireflies is an absolute masterpiece. Monnonoke, Spirited Away, and Totoro are also great.

Princess Mononoke (hence my username) and Spirited Away. The Animatrix is up there for animation, but some of the story lines are kind of weak.

And who can forget Star Blazers.

there are more Lupin the Third movies than that... I think they make a new one for release each summer. it has been a while since I've seen them but there are ones that I like more than the Castle of Cagliostro.

Yes you're right. I thought you meant the third movie of Lupin the Third...which would be the Castle of Cagliostro

bah. ya, I didn't mean that and I like spelling it as Lupin the Third rather than Lupin III so I guess it got confusing... I did make all the nouns plural in the post though so it doesn't make too much sense that I was referring to one movie.

going back to the original thread topic, Metropolis isn't that bad either.

I believe we have a winner.

Also, there's a difference between favorite and best. For instance, Grave of the Fireflies is probably the best anime movie, but it's not my favorite, simply because it's too darn sad. My favorite overall... tough call, but I'll probably go w/ Spirited Away, w/ Castle of Cagliostro and Princess Mononoke being close behind. Also really like the other Miyazaki movies, the first two Tenchi movies, and Millennium Actress. Some mentioned the Escaflowne movie, but I really liked the series better.

The same here. Hotaru no haka is somehow far beyond a typical anime.

Most of Studio Ghibli movies directed by Miyazaki & Takahata are my favorites.

Astro Boy
Star Blazers
Akira

1) Spirited Away
2) Princess Mononoke
3) Perfect Blue

I must say Laputa is certainly also one of the best but I don't know, maybe I watched it too many times when I was a kid, it just doesn't have that appeal for me anymore when I watch it now.
