What is the definition of a dedicated line? And would the following like be used in addition to one or could replace it.

Just getting some ideas for when I have a house in like 10 years

I think the best way is to get a seperate line into the house off the utility pole and then go through a step-up/step-down type transformer feeding a dedicated breaker box with one breaker per outlet. If you want to get really fancy you can use something like Virtual Dynamics' Armoured BX Cable after the transformer ($6/ft). I think all this sounds more expensive than it really is.

The main problem with conditioning the whole house is that all the devices that can pollute the power in the house (fans, computers, TVs, refridgerators, etc) will polute the power coming from the conditioner, defeating the purpose of power conditioning.

So True. You have to use those conditioners with an isolation device as well as special breakers and boxes. I install these all the time with MRI and CT machines. They also limit current on start up and are not really good for audio use. They do provide very stable clean power and will absolutely prevent an surges.

If you want to do a house, install the devices(usually an isolation or step-up transformer) right before and after the breaker box.

get a dedicated line for AV purposes and leave the rest of the house isolated from this line
