This thread reminds me to Friends episode when Joey got himself a man's bag

Messenger Fi gets my vote!
I carry a Brenthaven PowerBook case w/ one of my two G4 PowerBooks inside. It's also got my DayTimer planner in there and plenty of room for a Total BitHead and Etys.

Try a Jack Spade messanger bag (comes in different materials and colors). Great design, looks utilitarian but sophisticated. And their reputation has been built on making bags.
Check out the Jack Spade site, for the different types they make and info...

Click through the messanger bag products.

If you are to get a "manbag" these would be it, where there is a heritage at least to where these came from and developed.

Not to be confused with Kate Spade Bags.

as being an urban metrosexual type, I emplore you not to get a man-purse
cause honestly you don't carry a compact, tampons and birth control

though rather if you do, need to carry such things as your headphones, cell phone, cdp, and a gameboy/books whatever your fancy

i'd still rather a decent looking strap bag, such as something from diesel or freshjive

however, if you do wnat a smaller more aggressive sport style MEC.ca has alot of stuff here in canada that is somewhat more masculane than a man-purse from coach

I dunno that ad with the bloke wearing a man bag is seriously dubious at best. Now people might think he is carrying it for his girlfriend, wife whatever. Picture the sceanario.

I've been using various TUMI ballistic nylon briefcases for the last 15 years for my bag-of-tricks with perfect satisfaction. Whether carried by hand or lashed on the scoot, they have served well. Well made, lots of useful pockets, although the last iteration fully loaded with laptop looks like I'm running away from home.

SWMBO, my sainted wife, has been using some healthy back shoulder bags for the last 10 years or so. We were cruising around Vancouver, BC last week when I spotted and pointed out a obese middle aged guy with one. She was absolutely floored and even more appalled when I suggested it made him look pretty "butch" (which it did). It was quite a moment (as are all when SWMBO is speechless).

I have a few vintage Briefcases but would never use a girly manbag. The closest thing I have to a purse(that's what manbags are) is the Headroom Traveller bag.

I don't currently use a man bag, everything I need to carry when I'm out (car keys, cell phone, wallet, and maybe a pen) fits in my pockets. If I do need to carry more than what's listed above I'd go with a fanny such as on by Tumi. Years ago I used to carry around a cluctch bag when I was carrying around a lot more but have since learned to minimize what I really need to carry.

Well, first off, you can't be using the term manbag. That's just not gonna work, if you're trying to avoid being perceived as gay. Why not just use a backpack, you can never be too old to use them imo. Or, buy clothes with lots of pockets, like a big jacket or cargo pants.

i carry this , which i have carried for 8 years to carry all my stuff, like my cd player, taser, notebooks, graphing calculator, bike lock, duct tape
but if your're looking for something more technical, have a look here Put a seat belt strap on any of them and they won't be considered "purses"

I usually have a camera bag and 1-2 cameras and 3-5 lenses with me wherever I go, so I pretty much need a man bag. I use a Domke 803 satchel. This is not mine, but gives you an idea of what it looks like:

Otherwise I will use a backpack or carry a Tumi (a fantastic bag/floppy briefcase).
