Who's reached the summit? - Page 2

The Summit Is Within My Grasp...

I’m done with my source (transport/DAC), but I still need to find the right amp for my system (and interconnects/power cords). I’m sure I could benefit from some power conditioning, as well. I also have plans to upgrade my HD580/Oehlbach to the HD650/Balanced Zu Mobius. I’ve decided that the HD580/600/650 is my sound and while I appreciate the virtues of the K1000, PS-1, R10 and Omega II, the HD650 makes me the happiest (and is relatively affordable); I’ve also decided to refrain from any encounters with the Orpheus. I guess I haven’t reached the summit but it’s within earshot; the clouds do obscure the very top somewhat…

bangraman, it's all small talk. I can remove the last paragraph of my post if you like or if the mods think that I've gone too far. I would not have posted that paragraph if it were standing alone. I believe I'm true to this thread by comprehensively covering how far I am from being satisfyied with my rig.

I'm not offended by your remarks yet and if you think I may have offended anyone or you, then please PM me and we'll discuss this matter.

Not offended at all Flea Bag... I give to the MSF and was sort of an aid worker for a while. But it is inappropriate, and it's happened more than once.

well, i will never reach the summit of high-end. those pieces are too rare and too expensive.
i'm happy with i've got now. ok, another amp instead of the hev70 and buying some silltech g6 cables.
still, for years to come, i'm happy with my current headphones setup.

Wow, $4500 (can't make the pound symbol) on headphone gear is crazy, no offense. For me I have a CMOY, HD555's, and an AV710 and I think I'm done. I'm sure one day I may get HD600/650's and maybe a better amp, but that's it (and who knows, I may just chill with my setup and forget about it). Headphones are nice, but unless you have money to burn I'd rather have a bigger place, nicer car, spend more time travelling, or whatever.

Very well... Hope the edits I've done are a good compromise.

I wouldn't say it is...it's not completely impertinent to his line of thought (I've spent all the money I need on my gear->what do I do with my money now?->charity!)

If you don't like what he has to say, you don't have to read it. There's freedom of speech in Britain, isn't there?

As for my own situation, I've stared into the abyss...

And there is no end.

Those who think there is an end are temporarily deluded.

I wish I was deluded.

Thanks man, you've read my mind. I really can't stand if when people are satisfyied with what they've got but then search around intentionally to hae that feeling of upgraditis back! But I do understand that some here might feel uncomfortable reading my comments and I respect that.

At the risk of getting off topic, it's not the point. It is inappropriate, and we'll leave it at that. The Member's Lounge is what comments like that are for.

You know, perfectionism with equipment is a terrible BURDEN!

Start to really discover the soul and meaning of your music, not just appreciating how perfect it sounds through your setup! Say with confidence to people that you know more about the origins/ideas/artistry of your music choices rather than just your equipment!

Headfi has excellent music forums too...

I don't know if i'm at the Everest of headphone sound, i feel so, but to be more realistic and give room to improvement let say i'm at the K2.

In fact i would have to try my source against something like Weiss DAC1, to be really sure i'm at the very top, but as bangraman said, before trying something potentially better i need to be sure i can buy it!

What makes a ultimate setup is also the little tweaking you can do, custom heavy stand, cables, silly things like Cardas caps, those little things added together can make the last bit of improvement that lead to incredible result.

Just play the music now!

I have not yet reached the summit.
I love my Arcam CD23T and my MOH ref amp. I think I want to step up in the phones catagory from the Grado RS-1 to something with more soundstage.
I've been at this peak for a while and I am quite happy with it. Someday I will upgrade the phones and maybe the cables.

Nowhere near it, I just started and I'm already unsatisfied. I waited 7 weeks for an amp and some headphones to arrive, the amp makes noises and the headphones aren't what I had expected!

I'm quite happy with my rigs right now, but I'm not sure that the "summit" will ever be reached. As long as new "Flavors of the Month" posts keep showing up on Head-Fi I will continue to be tempted to try new headphones, amps, etc.. Luckily, since I am totally out of money right now and for the rest of the year, Head-Fi temptations will not rule my life.

I do envy those that are satisfied with their audio equipment and have no intention of looking further. But in some respects, that seems to me like someone who thinks such and such a book was the best book they've ever read so they aren't going to ever read another one, they're just going to keep reading that one over and over again! I really enjoy listening to music and I'll keep buying better/different audio equipment just to experience the music in a different/better way.

hmm,

when you haven't got the money, why looking further..face your boundaries. that's why i'm happy with my current setup; for the money i've spent, i think i made a good choice...
