How much difference is there in the sound of the Grado lineup? - Page 3

Thanks for the link. I looked at the SR60 vs the SR80 and see the opposite of what I hear...I wonder if they got them mixed up.

headroom's new graphs of the grado phones look remarkably similar to the ones i've take n of the sr-60, 125 and ms-1

So, it really does seem that it is the enclosure that makes the sonic differences

Those graphs are quite worrying... YES... I know we shouldn't gauge anything by its frequency response, but... those peaks look nasty (even if the 'phones themselves don't sound that way)

I'm tempted by looking at the various postings here, to (if I stay with the Grado line) go no higher up the range than the SR-325s... any higher than that, and I'll loose the upfront, punchy, fast, fluid sound that I want... I'm sure that that is right?!?!?!

To me..

...the RS's don't *lose* any of the previous niceties, it only *adds* way better soundstaging and realism.

I mean, to me, between the 225s and the RS-1s, it was like their was an electronic "veil" lifted off of the front of the music. Much more natural and inviting, many more smiles on my face. I'd call it "effortless" sounding. Noticeably (spine-tinglingly) natural. When I hear, say, a cello solo, I really do believe it's in the room, whereas with the SR series phones, I had to suspend disbelief a bit.

matt, have you listened to the 325?

Regretably...

...no. I can only use my frame of reference, but I know you've said time and again you prefer the 325s over all else. To me, that suggestion was intriguing and perhaps my next set of cans (the day is going to come sometime in the near future) will be those.

Is there a similar phenomenon as described in my earlier post with the jump from 225 to 325?

Matt, you may be thinking of someone else. I don't own and have never heard the 325's
