Request for a Vinyl Accessory

Todd,

I have a few old records that I would like to clean.

I am looking for a device that protects the label when you are washing really dirty records. Tuberoller has one that he likes but he cannot remember the source. There are a couple that sell from time to time on eBay but I have heard that they leak.

Do you have anything or any ideas of where to look?

No, more like a circular clamp that just covers the label so that you can wash the records by hand and rinse over the sink without hurting the label. All it does is keep moisture away from the label. Sort of like this one:

Tuberoller tried this one and he was not satisfied with its performance.

acrylic cover

I have an acrylic one which works fine. Was suggested on Asylum. I bought at Disc Union in Japan, can post a photo this evening. But recall seeing elsewhere.

Two small dome shaped acrylic covers with a rubber seal around edges. Has a bolt thru middle with plastic covered nuts for threading through center and tightening.

Cost $30 - $40? Will check tonight. I rarely use. Generally, try to buy excellent to mint records which require minor cleaning, where label is hardly in danger.

HI John,

I'll see what I can find and try to get something that works well in stock... no guarantees but I'll try.

I found this one being sold on ebay and thought I would give it a try:

I will let you know how it works.

John,

That's it. This is the seller I bought it from and he still has my quote in his ad listing. You should ask him how his book is going.

I'm looking to get one of those to clean filthy 45s. They don't need a vacuum treatment for the equipment I play them on, and I'm not into spending $80 to get the 7" attachements anyhow.

Another use for these label protectors is to place them over the record label when use a vacuum machine. This protects the label when spraying, squirting and cleaning with fluid on the record surface. I had to drill the hole out a bit to get it to fit over the spindle on my VPI 16.5 machine but it works great and I don't have to worry about getting the label wet while cleaning.

How do you clamp the record down to the machine so they don't slip on the mat?

This looks almost like the one I got with the exception that mine is reversible for 45's. It came with 4 o-ring seals. I tried it last night and it worked great. Our kitchen is being upgraded so I was relegated to the bathroom. Tomorrow I will have some time I hope to play a bit.
