Closeup of a Tannoy Dimension TD10

Wow! The TD10?! Aren't those things around 7k-8k a pair?

Not anymore

Yep, those are the Tannoy Dimension TD10's. Really nice sounding speakers. Luckily I didn't pay anywhere near retail. They were dealer demos I grabbed on audiogon; 4500 including the TDC center. Still no small change

The TDC is by far the most beastly center channel I've seen in person. It weighs almost 80 pounds. EIGHTY...for a CENTER. Three 8" woofers on the front panel, one of them a dual concentric unit, and a supertweeter on top. Of course it's also stylin' with the black velvet, cherry finish, and alloy trim like the TD10's. I don't even know what to do with it yet - right now I have a nice 2ch, but no HT configuration. It's pretty difficult to wrestle out of the box, otherwise I'd have posted pics for y'all.

Gee Mike you seem like such a nice guy, yet you're always having to make do with these paltry little systems, my heart goes out to you.

That has got to be one of the sweetest systems I've yet seen on here! And your Sota just makes me drool every time I see it. Man the Legacy's didn't stay long huh? Those Tannoy's are gorgeous! You're my audio hero! Need a live in maid?

Thanks Steve

The Legacys could do amazing things when all the stars were aligned...but they were diabolically demanding of and sensitive to: room placement, room acoustics, and amplification. A few different times, I felt like got so close to dialing them in to my living room, but there was always some kind of issue that ended up revealing itself and bugging me. The Tannoy dual-concentrics have been more forgiving of my blunders

The SOTA has been worth its weight in gold (and it ain't a lightweight). Probably the most important audio purchase I've ever made; at least up there with the L3000 & SDS acquisition 2 years ago. Damn I love LP's

And yeah, the gf has grown weary of picking up after me, so stop by any time

That's beautiful Mulveling!

I found myself with nothing to do today and a pair of drivers that I had lying around. Couple hours later, I had me some horns!

Again built around the Tang Band W4-655SA driver. I'm highly impressed with this driver, especially regarding cost. Build plan is here.

I still need to play with dampening material to see what works best, then they need to be glued and sanded down. I'll raise them roughly 20 cm to get them to perfect listening height for me. Already sound pretty decent as is. Medium sibilance, but if I can get that out of the way then I think they'll replace the Cyburg Sticks as main speakers. I'm hoping to get rid of the sibilance without a filter, I think some dampening will do the trick.

Curse you Head-Fi, for getting me into speaker building!

cool horns man, looks pretty sweet for 2 hours of work.

seeing all this stuff has me hooked on DIY. my list of things to do include a 2x12 speaker cab for my amp, a small set of desktop speakers, a few more headphone amps, and oh, I still need to finish my alien DAC boards.
