I recently bought the apple cck for my iPhone 7 and while I'm happy it works, the sound seems crappy and the soundstage is much smaller than when I plug my laptop into my dac via USB. I see a lot of people use the cck so is there something I'm not doing right?

If the DAC is dependent on USB power instead of its own PSU or battery, either totally all the way to its analogue output circuit or sometimes just to power the DAC chip itself, then the phone isn't capable of sending that much current to run it properly.

The dac has its own power supply and I'm using the new cck with the optional power input too

Have used CCK with iPhone6 and Chord Mojo.  Didn't notice a difference compared with laptop, did notice difference compared with iPhone alone.

Don't have an iPhone7 nor easy access to one, so don't know how I'd test same as your setup.

That doesn't guarantee that all the DAC run on the PSU. I had the SuperPro 707 before and USB powers the USB receiver chip and DAC chip. Others use USB power to at least run the USB receiver to trigger it as an input, or just the indicator lamp.

That said, there could be some kind of software conflict also, although normally if the Android/iOS drivers don't work, then practically nothing will apart from specific apps with their own drivers. My Pangea HP101 though despite needing non-generic drivers that need to be downloaded works fine with Android but is a total PITA on Windows 7.
