[FINAL LIST ANNOUNCED]Aune S6 32BIT/384K DSD 128 DAC/Amp Worldwide Review Tour — Come win your new year's gift! - Page 9

She just landed. Just had a first listen.

1.. this thing is quiet. Very low noise floor via USB. I am using it downstream of a USB galvanic isolator, which lowers the absolute noise floor on a lot of DAC's. Still the noise floor is as low or maybe lower than my W4S DAC-1 LE.

2. Sound is smooth and warm. Definitely on the other side of the spectrum compared to the W4S. Well, that's exaggerating, but the W4S is more neutral with hints of warmth. The Aune is characteristically warm I would say. The other DAC I have here is the iFi iDSD Micro. I would put it right in the middle of the other two totally.

3. Midrange is nice!

4. DSD sounds very very good, even if they don't have the true Native DSD mode engaged. Since there seems to be no way to disable volume control, I am assuming they are using the DSP pathway rather than volume bypass. Whatever the case, the result is excellent and I'm not really worried about it.

I haven't checked out the headphone amp yet. That's next on my list. Gonna plug in via balanced my LCD-X.

please if you have the time, compare PCM/MP3 materials (aune vs idsd). I want one but i dont have dsd files (wondering if idsd is a better purchase tongue.gif) TIA!

Would someone compare this to the JOTUNHEIM with the DAC and  iFi micro – iDSD BL.

QUESTIONS

1. So S6 doesn't play native DS files and the iFi micro iDSD-Black plays native is that correct?

2. Power output is greater on the S6 vs the iFi Black ?

3. So is the balanced ouput of S6 a better option then non balanced output of iFi Black ?  Is that a deal breaker or a shiny ?

Trying to decide between the S6 and the black iFi  black  for a desktop setup.  I  have a balanced portable amp  and balanced cables gor my HIFIMAN-HE-400I and will be getting a balanced cable for my inbound MR SPEAKERS AEON .

I like the dual dac chips and the sound of the Burr-Brown DAC chipset. My current DAP Cowon Plenue M2 has that chip setp. I will be using JRIVER on my desktop.

4. Which of these 2 would you buy to use as desktop setup with a Windows based computer?

I look forward to your reviewers feedback

Thanks

This is a link to 3 files which have been volume matched and recorded from the headphone outputs of the Aune S6 , Fostex HPA4 BL and Chord Mojo

1. I'm not familiar with DS files but it does DSD, i suppose similar format?

2. I had the BL for a while, I think it has slightly greater power output than S6, as on IEM like Sage, it takes S6 50 / 100 to be at optimal, on the BL is far lesser

3. Balanced / SE, it's up to what you need, for me, SE is much more versatile, and common than the 4 pin XLR. Everything comes with SE as a starter, and you will have to get extra cables to go balanced. Not a lot of them are native 4 pin XLRs ready, but since you have so many balanced cable, S6 might do better in this section.

4. For me, definitely the S6, although it takes up space, it's switchable input AND output is great for me switching sources and output, RCA to speakers and front end SE to IEM, and 4 pin XLR to VE Zen 2.Source is USB and optical switchable, ain't that great!

And I have the S6 in-hand via Tennessee. Quite nice so far!

Quick silly question: how might I go about hooking up my FiiO x5iii and Shanling M5 up to the Aune for comparisons sake?

Much obliged.😎

coaxial, there is this adapter that came along with the x5ii, so maybe x5iii has it too, then coax cable to the S6 coax in

OK, I will try that. I had all connections going last night...Coax/Lineout/headphone jack...sigh. I'll get it.

I used the wrong cable, got it working! 👍😎

Thanks.
