What am i doing wrong with my speakers ?

I have a problem setting up my Creative Gigaworks speakers. I've been using them for a week or 2 now, and i've been using them wrong. I noticed that in movies and games, i don't hear a lot from the side speakers.

I did all the configuering and callibrating, but i must have made a serious error somewhere, maybe it plugging in the jacks. I don't have any experience with this...

Here's what happens. When going into the Calibrate program from creative ( it came with the speakers ) the first thing you do is locate where the sound comes from. i can hear the front speakers VERY clearly ( the 3 front speakers ) and the sub as well.

But when it play the backside speakers ( no, not the butt speakers, i mean the furthest ones away ) , it is very hard to tell if i'm hearing the back speakers or the side ones. It seems to originate BETWEEN the speakers ( haha an ilusion offcourse : the wonders of stereo sound !! ) so i guess the're BOTH playing.

And the last two sounds are VERY soft, even when i turn the volume to max.

I'm sure some of you guys are chuckling at my ignorance at this point. Please help this newby out :-))

And some other helpfull hints are welcome too !

Anyone ? Is my question to difficult, or is it to lame ?

Yep, you plugged in a jack wrong. Did the same thing while trying to hook up some Zalman 5.1 headphones. (OK, they claim they're 5.1 First, there's no subwoofer, so there goes the .1 Second, how do you have a center channel with headphones? They're 4 channel, really) Exact same symptoms. Check all your cabling and instructions, then double-check. If all else fails, randomly plug 'em in until you get it right

And from this procedure, we derive the term "plug and play".

Try plugging in one pair of speakers into each of the different jacks so you actually know what the outputs are. The soundcard manual should tell you which is which though.

Nope that wasn't the problem. I'm not THAT much of a newby. I found out that for some WEIRD reason my control panel keeps resetting to 2 speaker stereo, and that did wierd stuff to other control panels like creative speaker settings. I'm at a loss.

Joeri, have you ever heard of GoT? Maybe they can help you if no-one here can. Do a good search first. They're a perculiar bunch and like to yell UTFS (use the f***ing seach) at you if you didn't tell in your post that you searched first but couldn't find it.
Good luck!

I figured you were being serious since you are from Holland, so I will be serious also. Jasper's avatar is Kirsten Dunst, a US actress.

More pics of her here

LOL serious, because i'm from Holland !!! When i was in the USA people believed me every time i was being sarcastic as well. It got me in a few painfull situations, let me tell yah.

I was wondering though, why would someone use a beautiful actress as an avatar ? I think i'm going to read up on Freud :-))

Bedankt voor de link, Lisa. :-) Heel handig.

I meant because you were from Holland, you would not recognize a US actress

hmmmmm I don't know... being Kirsten Dunst would have its purks... The only problem would be even if I were a girl, I still wouldn't like guys so I'd have to be a lesbian... hmmmm I think that might damage her image a little... or not...
