[Reviewers Wanted] World Tour for Cayin i5 - Android based AK4490 DAP with WiFi, Dropbox and Google Play

Wow!  First tour, first real anything since I joined the head-fi family.  I'm super excited to be a part of this and can't thank you enough for including me, Andy!  I'm beefing up my very modest stable of listening implements to hopefully provide something meaningful to the list of reviews and impressions.  In addition to the HD600s, I've got a set of UE900s's and Blue Lola's on the way thanks to Audiogon and @DJBaila right here on Head-Fi.

I wonder if there's anything particularly special I can bring to the table being an inexperienced reviewer with some new equipment?  Does anyone have any helpful hints aside from reading up on other / past reviews?  Is there something unique I can do (based on my inexperience) that might be worthwhile?  Definitely let me know.  I'd love to do something useful!

Oh, almost forgot.  I'm considering snagging the AR-M20 while it's on sale (just 3 more days!) and having it on hand for a comparison.  Early holiday gift to me, apparently.  Does anyone on the tour have any thoughts or experience with the AR-M20?  The sale price puts it in a comparable bracket to the i5.  Would it be outrageous to return the AR-M20 if / when I like the i5 better given AR's 30-day return window?

Brooko has a blog about reviewing. It is a good place to start. One thing I would advise is get an SPL meter. When comparing headphones, way too many reviewers are actually making comparisons of volume, not headphone characteristics. Match your volumes as best you can, it's important. The second thing I'd advise is find and bring your own voice. In a way, you are also part of the review product, bring your uniqueness to the table. Don't try to emulate someone else.

Welcome to HeadFi! Hope your reviewing goes well. Sorry about your wallet.

Congrats and I second what glassmonkey said. Brooko's review blog was invaluable to me. I was then able to "personalize" what I felt.

Just write down what your ears hear; then put it into well written thoughts! Sometimes, of course our emotion can prevent us from doing that; but I would never want to temper anyone's passion as a result. Let your ears hear the device; and your brain/heart drive the words.

It's a pretty cool hobby that allows us to be so close to the manufacturers. I wouldn't change that one bit!

Best of luck, and congrats!

Thanks for the PM and invite @Andykong

I would love to be part of the UK section of the tour and have read the terms and conditions as suggested.

What else do you need from me at this stage?

Thanks, @glassmonkey, @ngoshawk, @noobandroid!  I really appreciate the tips.  I spent some time to read the @Brooko review info, and there's a lot of good stuff there.  Definite thanks to him for pulling that together.  I'm starting to think about how I want to present information about the item under review, about myself, and about what I feel is important (coming from the bliss of pure ignorance).  I hope to make it worth a read!

In the meantime, aside from the Brooko review thread, is there a thread folks have used to discuss the review process?  I didn't see another one that seemed appropriate...

Both and probably in triplicate to make sure we all know who is to receive what and when . It is done by PM normally - have you not been sent a PM yet?

No pm for this tour.

Sorry for keeping everyone waiting, we have send out all our i5 Tour package on last Friday and Saturday, so the ball is rolling and let's keep the momentum going.

By now everyone should receive a group PM, I can't keep everyone updated individually as there are 50+ reviewers in this tour, so please maintain our communication through group PM, that should keep everyone in the group in the same page all the time.

I only have one wish for this tour: please make this an interactive and lively tour, something that the whole DAP community can be benefited. I really feel bad when the tour only compose of "package send on ...." and "package received on ..." messages. So please subscribe the i5 discussion thread now and share your questions and thoughts with the Cayin online community in due course. I don't care whether it is a single-line impression or a complaint on bad product design, as long as you are telling your honest observation or feelings, you are sincerely appreciated.

Administratively, I shall keep the top post updated so all reviewers can keep track of the progress of the tour.

Looking forward to chat with you all on the Cayin i5. See you later.

It will be a highly interesting experience I'm sure and we can look forward to seeing how much power the i5 has got , how it measures up sq wise to the classics (my Ibasso DX100) and to the 100s of new daps on the market.
GUI , being Android based , should see some impressions on how Tidal Spotify Deezer and the like works.
Lots to get stuck into and all the boring stuff regarding posting etc can be PM'd
