Feliks Audio Espressivo, excellent value for money OTL tube amp.

Also regarding your comments about them creaking when you move your head, this does happen slightly as they are brand new and you can feel the plastics are fairly tight. This will go away with a small amount of use, as the pair I borrowed did not suffer from this.

thanks for that. is there any retailers doing special deals on the amp ?  I saw someone write that they were on sale for $229 at one point but feliks audio site looks way more.  I'm beginning to wonder about the amirons now.  and just as spain amazon put their price back up from £425 to £511

I have the Feliks Elise and it sounds excellent with the Amiron. The thing with the Elise is that there are almost limitless tube options that can provide varying sound characteristics. I don't go crazy with tube rolling though. I found a pair of driver tubes that offers a nice dynamic range.

I am getting a Violectric V100 solid state amp soon too so looking forward to hearing that with the Amiron. Violectric is made in Germany so thought it would be interesting to marry two examples of fine German engineering lol.

I don't think this is sold in retail shops, you buy direct as they are hand built. I got mine a while back at a sale price, it may not have the tube rolling capabilities of the Elise, or the power, but it drives most dynamic headphones fine.

I would say that the treble is brighter than my initial impression but i will not call it bright. This is of course highly subjective and compared to what?
I remember the 1990 to be brighter but maybe I remember wrong!

I'd had the Amiron for less than a week and still learning. How long time did he spend with it, he don't tell us.

The Amiron do not have awesome build quality but ok that is also highly subjective :). The Z1R have awesome build quality.

How much more are the Z1R to the amiron ? 4 times the cost at least... not a valid comparison.  That's like saying a Porsche is faster than a Skoda and expecting the comparison to have any credibility.  The only valid comparisons are to other units within a reasonable price variable, unless the comparison is positive in favour of the cheaper product.  To say a  $20k skoda is faster than a $200k Porsche is impressive.  The reverse means nothing, lol.

That reviewer says there is lean bass and bright treble - pretty much the total opposite of what most people have said. That's what he hears but never heard such an opinion of the Amiron.

And therein lays the problem with any reviews.  Each is completely subjective and has no baseline.  No equal reference.  The only way to really compare is for all variables to be equal, and that can never happen since we all have different ears.
