There are backing vocals on the EarPods I could pick out better than any other headphone. That being said the bass response is pretty abysmal, it seems to lack bass under 450Hz. More articulate treble than the Solo3 though. If the AirPods are slightly better in that bass response is significantly improved along with just a tad more clarity in the mids and treble then I could see them sounding quite decent.

I haven't tested AirPods yet, but as far as people say the bass response cannot be that good. We should not forget that they are earbuds so it's impossible to produce the bass of Solo3 or PB3, since they do not seal at all! Also like on my EarPods, I can't stand hearing all environmental noise while listening to music. Once I was out and listening to ambient music on EarPods and could not discern which sound was coming from the city and which one from the music piece:-)) Listening to music outside for me is synonymous to some kind of passive even noise canceling in order to enjoy my music.

I've got both Solo3 and PB3 and they are both very good, for different uses though. PB is brighter than Solo and can only work well with Comply foam or Sony hybrid since its own tips cannot stay stable at least on my ears. But I am happy with both Solo and PB. I don't think that AirPods will give me the same level of music enjoyment for the reasons I wrote above, but they could be good for telephone calls and the like because of their ease of use. For music I think you will do better with Solo3 and PB3...

Could you please let us know with what you compare the bass of the AirPods, by calling it great? What other headphones/earphones have you listened to? Are you saying it is just good for their size and non sealing form or is there better bass on the AirPods than any other earphone you have listened to?? Maybe just better from the EarPods??

Also, do you agree with many reviewers saying that since they just sit outside of the ear without any seal in the canal, they can move easily (not falling out but changing position easily with every movement of the head), and thus changing the FR on one ear in comparison to the other?? Or most probably you did not have so much time to check these details quite yet?...

Cool

Had the Airpods for a week now and still amazed at how effortless the pairing is, the whole package is tiny and so travel friendly.  Love it.

The sound quality is still ok, but when I switch over to the V-Moda ZN for instance, it's like night and day.  I just can't see wireless having that kind of SQ like a wired pair.   I'd love to be completely wrong when the Forza Wireless arrive on the scene but I have an inkling it will be the same scenario.

I don't think it's a matter between wired and wireless. If you hear PB3 or Solo3, that have the same W1 chip, you will see that they have no difference anymore from their wired options. Some may say that they are even better than the wired ones. But Solo3 are full size on ears and PB3 are in ears. As I explained also to previous posts, the non sealing and easily movable form factor of AirPods is causing a rather mediocre sound output, just as on the wired EarPods. You compared in ear silicone or foam tips earphone with completely open and loosen earbuds. It's obvious that the in ear headphone will get a much better bass response as well as a much more linear output due to the fact that it is stable in the ear canal, as well as blocking some environmental noise...

Used the Airpods in the gym for the very first time the other day and they're really good, stay put, sound is loud enough and effortless pairing meant I could just get to it.  Siri worked as well, but preferred to just do changes on the phone - that's the one flaw, I wish they had some kind of touch controls for skipping and going back a track as well as volume controls without activating siri.
