Sony cans only available in Japan?

Thread Starter
Hi,
A friend is going to Japan in a couple of weeks & he is going to check out prices on Sony's V6s to see if they are better priced there (as a gift to my wife). Does anyone know if I should have him check out any other high quality phones that may only be available there?

Thanks,
Bob

You might want him to check out the Sony MDR-D66 Eggo's. I have heard good things about them in some odd thread about them i think. I know you can get them from this
http://<a href="http://www.minidisco...6sl-b.html</a> for like $100USD.

And can anybody tell what the hell is up with that guy in the mask in the picture on that link that i posted.

LOL...I think they're just trying to demonstrate how fashionable the Eggo's are!

The message the ad conveys to me is "good enough for your gimp to wear."

I'd never put those suckers on my gimp.

Mexican wrestler, perhaps?

I think i understand the mask now.

Example: Average looking girl likes to hang around the ugliest girl she can find to make her seem like she looks alot better than she really does.

Maybe the mask is like that ugly girl...

I am way wrong though.

Mexican wrestlers need headphone love as well i guess.

Bob,

If you go to japan looking for a Sony V6 or 7506 you won't find it under that name. Try looking for the 900ST. They are the domestic versions of the 7506. BTW they are not cheaper than in the states.... a pair will set you back about $115 bucks.

Chances are he won't be able to find a new CD-1700 for sale.

Since he is trying to find the a V6 cheap. I am going to go out on a limb and say that he is probably not looking for $4000 headphones............

Well if you like Audio Technica there are lots of diffrent audio techinca headphones you can find very easily in Japan.

hardwarenut,

Do you know if the ATH-W11R can still be found in Japan?

ATH-W11R in Japan

Hardwarenut, I'm in Osaka Japan and believe it or not, I just saw the ATH-W11Rs on sale two days ago for 27,000 yen ($200 US or so). I must admit I'm a total headphone newbie, and I'm really tempted to go back and grab those headphones. So yeah, in answer to your question, they are still available, but I guess dealers are trying to clear them out for some reason.

he is looking for OTHER high quality headphones, and did not state a price limit. the r10 can be had (i've heard) for a lot less than $4000 in japan. they qualify high quality headphones, no?

if your friend has time, why not ask him to look at other brands. (certain parts of tokyo are toy city....lots of stuff never seen before in the west, but all documentation is in japanese)

if you are set on getting V6's probably buying ones in the states is better for warranty reasons.

if/in addition, you want to see what else is out there, Audio Technica has some phones in japan which they do not sell outside of Asia (and not just the wood ones - do a search on this site)

Denon phones should be easy to find. Panasonic has a bunch not usually seen in the west.

of sony, the only ones i can think of are the eggos as mentioned above, but my eggos arent very good compared to other under 100USD phones like the philips HP890s
