Small, Fast DIY Sub for music only?

I'm not sure if a small, fast DIY sub even exists but that is all I need, I think.
Music only, no home theatre and not a large room, and I don't need to go all that deep either. (I'm aware of non-DIY models available, HSU, etc thanks)

Does one exist? Thanks

Probably get a small, lightweight 10" woofer with decent excursion and put it in a small sealed box = instant tight bass. I don't know of any that anyone's "designed", but that's a pretty decent formula, just get the specs right.

Hehe, I tried that very thing with a bloated sounding pc speaker sub, and it worked quite well, except that the only 'small sealed box' I had was the small chest my DVD/CD player rests on...needless to say, the DVDs I played skipped from their own bass during moments of explosions and the like in action movies (it's a cheap, touchy DVD player from Sears :b) Very good idea though

What's your budget?

Might these interest you?

Not bad. These are about as good as can be expected for the money I think. Any lower and I'm throwing my money away. Adire Audio Shiva is a name I had heard but had forgotten. Adire Audio Shiva 12" subwoofer driver, 120 watt amplifier $475.00 unassembled.

A more powerfull amp & even 10" would probably be better. I'll contact them regarding mix and match.

Thanks bootman

The NHT 1259 is the best that I have seen to date. In a 2.5 cubic foot enclosure it does this:

Just for grins I ran the adire shiva in the same cabinet. Damping factor for the NHT is .68 (very fast and well damped). Damping for the shiva is .88. Underdamped, and slightly boomy. To get to critical damping I had to go to 6 cubic feet on the Adire. It runs out of excursion at 25 hz in that configuration. Here they are in the 2.5 cubic ft box (NHT in red, Adire in pink, and I appologize for the color choices):
