List of Abbreviations and shortcuts for newbies.

post #1 of 56
Thread Starter
I think we should start a thread posting all the abbreviations and weird terms we use on here with explanations. Then i will be able to make a new thread with everything put together so many of the new members to head-fi will understand exactly what some people are saying on here.

When I first got here i knew what nothing meant. Bump? IMO? and of course there are all those audiophile terms i have come to learn. Althought i have learned a lot, there are still many things i see on this site that i do not quite understand sometimes. So I thought this would definitely be helpful not only to new members but to us as well.

Just to start it off:

IMO: In my opinion
Bump: Used to move a thread up the list.
Audiophile: a audio enthusiast

ok i'll leave the rest to u guys.
"if anyone actually replys to this thread as no one usually does."

NO ONE? WOW, yet another thread i start that no one wants to reply to. I really thought this would be something helpful to head-fi.

IIRC = If I Recall/Remember Correctly
ROFL = Rolling on the Floor Laughing (I think)
LOL = This is pretty self-explanatory
SS = Solid State
WTF/WTH = What the F-word/Hell (I've been warned about my language)
N00b = New person who acts as if he knows everything even though he know nothing
Newb/Newbie = New guy
Troll = Commony connected to a N00b, it's someone who posts to cause trouble, takes shot at people for no reason, or posts something unjustified knowing it'll cause a heated debate. Tend to show up when they feel like they can p*** off certain well-known, experienced members (it varies, sometimes they're like thread stalkers), certain topics, or when they are merely bored. The definiton varies, but you get the general idea.
