HiFiMan 400S vs HD650: Is it really worth spending more than 2x as much? | Headphone Reviews and Discussion - Head-Fi.org

Here in Canada:

the HiFiMan 400S = $465.00 (taxes included)
the HD650 + DragonFly Red = $1,035.00 (taxes included)

From what I've read, the 400S can be driven just be my iPhone 6S, whereas the HD650 needs an amp (this is where the DFR comes in).

Comparing these 2 options, is it really worth more than TWICE the price for me to get the HD650?

I am a proud 650 owner and I would say; no... I don't own that particular hifiman but diminishing returns and what not. Also I'm not sure that the dragonfly would be on the top of my list if only to drive my 650's. You seem new to the hobby? Just enjoy good sound, which I think you can achieve through your iPhone and hifiman upgradetitus will come later on... No need to worry. This won't be end game eitherways
