DAC digital cable connection to portable MP3 player

Hi ! My digital cable for th X-DAC does not fit in to the line out of my portable MP3 player.(it is somewhat loose) .Therefore I thought that getting a RCA female to mini adapter would change the situation .But now , though the digital cable fits into the line out of my MP3 player , I do not hear any sound whatsoever .(rig - Archos Jukebox 20 , X-DAC,Homegrown Audio Super Silver 2 ,Grado RA-1 ,Grado RS-1.) .

You need something like this to go from mini-optical to toslink

A better version of the second converter, which also reduces jitter is the Monarchy DIP which costs about $250:

Hi ! Thanks for the suggestion . I bought the toslink to mini cable . I really hope it works , otherwise I will have no option but to sell the the DAC.

That alone won't work unless your DAC has a toslink input. If it only has a coax input (ie, an RCA connector), you'll additionally need one of the other two devices I listed links for.

X-DAC has both toslink and coaxial inputs .

Hi ! I bought the (mini)toslink cable. Although my X-DAC has an optical in as well as co-axial in but it still does not work. I wonder wether the CO2 converter would change that or not ?
Do I need an ADAT to SPIDF converter ?
(since i am connecting the line out ARCHOS JUKEBOX MP3
player to the X-DAC)

I think the line out is not digital .The archos website lists it as dual stereo line out .

It doesn't look like the Archos can be used with a DAC. No digital audio output. It appears to have a USB interface, to transfer data to and from a computer...but that appears to be the only digital output.

Since the Archos only has an analog line output, it cannot be used directly with the X-DAC. You'll need a mini phone plug to RCA cable, which will plug directly into your amp. You're stuck with the DAC in the Archos.

In the system you describe, you could use the X-DAC for computer playback: take digital output from your computer, and connect to input of X-DAC, analog outputs of X-DAC to your amp. That appears to be the only way to use the X-DAC, however.
