You can find a list and reviews of MD-retailers here:

Minidisco sells the 909. This is the only US retailer I know of that sells it. They are a reliable company to deal with. Not always the cheapest, but usually not the most expensive either.

why not just get an MZ-R50 and some Koss Portapros? The R-50 has a sweet headphone jack, not to mention a dedicated line out, should you decide to use a headphone amp.

(sorry, just had to warn ya, but it's your money, spend it how you like)

Tim brings up a good point.

MD veterans of head-fi, I pose to you this question:

Which would sound better - with the same headphones - an R909 playing Type R material in line out mode - through a given amp - or a R50 playing SP material through its dedicated line out?

The answer is, a R50 playing Type R recordings through its line out.

You didn't answer my question, vert.

Nice try, tho

True, but that is the best of the best you can get. Or a Sharp 831 piping Type R recordings through its 10mw internal amp.

I got my 909 from Minidisco. The things I like most about my 909 the R50 just can't deliver. Incredibly compact size, MDLP, better shock protection. If I want superior sound I'll just listen to a PCDP.

My thoughts exactly. I have a PCDP and I find it to be a bit bulky to carry around. So I just leave for just walking around the house when I want to enjoy some good quality music. So i was hoping to get a Mz-R909 for portable use.

Thanx guys for responses, it helps. My bro has the R50, ill see if the sound quality is really that much better, if it is... ill see if he wants to trade.
