Bookshelf for around 200

I am looking to buy some nice bookshelf speakers that will be used to listen to music in my room. I need something that has good highs and mids and a fair bass. I'm still waiting for my dad to buy new speakers so i can take the sonus faber concertos from him . In the mean time, I want to wait till i have about 200 dollars and buy a pair of bookshelf speakers that will be good enough to my ears to listen to music to. The concertos in my opinion have superb highs and pretty darn good mids. My HD-600's are also very good in highs and mids. I'm hoping something in the 200 price range could get me something close. I was looking at some of the infinity speakers or even nht. Anyone have suggestions?

edit. I remember going to my dads friends house and he said he bought his pair of energy speakers for something like 250 dollars used. They were floorstanding 2 way speakers. They sounded quite nice in my opinion possibly even beating the 1500 dollar concertos since the bass was way better. I was wondering if anyone knows of any energy speakers that are in that price range with good reputation. As I recall they were the new ones with the blue energy logo.

the energy xl-25 floorstanding speakers look awfuly nice for the price its going for on ebay. Has anyone heard of these. And to make things clear, i guess floorstanding is alright too as long as its around the price range.

I've listened to Energy's xl-25 at The Good Guys when they were around. Very nice speakers....I don't think you can go wrong with them.

At the same time, go to your local Best Buy and check out the Athena Technologies AS-B1 and AS-B2 bookshelf speakers. Athena Technologies is owned by the same parent company as Energy and the quality remains with this inexpensive line. Both models are under $200.00/pair. Do a google search and you will see that these speakers are highly-reviewed.

I have the Energy Take 5 set with a Energy 10 inch powered sub as my home "theater". The Energy's sound great for the price. They are a very good value in my opinion.

A 2-way Energy floorstanding ? Did it have more than one woofer? Energy doesn't seem to 2-way floorstanding with tweeter and just one woofer:

One 2-way dual woofer floorstander they have is the XL 250:

Was that $250 each one used? $250 for the pair would be an incredible bargain.

krell KAV-300i integrated amp. Now I'm trying to help my dad decide on a pair of speakers. I told him about the energy xl-25. But that really seems to be more for ht centers rather than hi-fi audio listening. My dad wants something that will really beat out the bass of the sonus faber concertos yet still have the high quality highs. I was looking at maybe the Vandersteen 2Ce speakers. He wanted the 3A signature's but they were just out of his price range. If anyone has any suggestions on other floorstanding loudspeakrs under the 1000 dollar range, it would be helpful. I dont want to buy new because that's just not worth the money.

In the meantime, my dad let me have his klipsch KSF-8 floorstanding speakers. Although not very clear highs, I think it will do for me in my room for casual listening.

it was 250 for the pair. He said he got it on ebay on memorial day. Seems that everyone was out partying while he got the good deal. They were not any of the ones I see on energy's website. He said they were about 3 years old. Maybe a discontinued version?

My bad.... correction on the 2 way. It was in fact 1 tweeter with 2 woofers. It was just a very plain black enclosure. Not very fancy from what I saw. Just completely rectangular with no special designs. All black

I've had the 2Ce's for about 8 years. Great speakers for the money especially used. Wish I had a system to complement it better.

Well no correction needed really, 1 tweeter and 2 woofers = 3 transducers, but still it's a 2-way speaker if the 2 woofers get the same signal from the crossover, so you were correct in calling it a 2 way. It's just that when reading "2-way" alone, the default image that comes to mind is a speaker with 1 tweeter and just 1 woofer, which didn't apply here.

On the cheap end, I would personally get some vintage jbl floorstanders. They have some 12" 3 way "monitors" (they're floorstanders) that sound fabulous. Probably best if you auditioned a few before buying on ebay though to see if you like their house sound. That'll get you really nicely integrated bass down to sub 30hz. Awesome value provided you like the vintage jbl house sound, and you might need to get the surrounds refoamed.

Get some used JM Labs Chorus 705. Probably the small monitor out there.
