Hi, i have the following portable system

 fiio x5/e12a/se535

I listen to jazz/blues vocal music and this system gives me delicacy, deep bass and dynamics with excellent vocals both male and female.

What i want to know is if i can improve dramatically on this  - in a portable setup - or would any changes give me a different SQ (but not necessarily better), in other words is it possible to get a night and day difference by going more upmarket (and i mean night and day not marginal)

Anyone comment from personal experiences (that means what it says - there are many people who leave comments based upon reading rather than their own experiences)

thank you

Once you realize that sound is objective, you would realize that nobody could answer that question :) Someone might say that there iphone with some cheap earbuds is better than a highend portable stack, and you really cant doubt them because it is there opinion.

I might tell you that you need an AK380 with $2000 custom iems for the best sound and you might not like it anymore than what you already have. You might like it even less!!

Thank you, i know that sq is too some extent subjective, i just wondered if any had gone through the experience of upgrading and wanted to share their knowledge and (subjective) opinions

I have no experience with better equipment myself, but from what I have read, the Shure KSE1500 seems to be a whole new level of quality for IEMs. I'd love to hear that system one day.

Agreed.

On the other hand, audio science would tell us that the setup you have has likely already reached that level of audio quality that it is probably close (if not already) to transparent within the range of hearing, meaning that any distortion added by the equipment is likely inaudible. You can't improve on that :)
