I purchased my first "quality" headphones a few days ago (Sennheiser HD590)
after reading many many reviews and comments. I must say, I like the sound so far, though theyre not burned in yet. Before these, I had some Koss U-20's (like $30 at best buy) and they completely fell apart. I would like to know what I should to do ensure my Senns last me a good time, what I should watch out for, (I've heard that playing at full volume will damage the phones, can anyone confirm?) since you guys are very knowledgeable I figured i'd ask here. any input would be great

I guess you already have the basics...
Don't play music with too high volume.
Don't drop them, too (if you want to sell them a good price later on

I'm not aware of any special maintenance. Just be careful with them, don't drop them and don't roll over the cord. Sennheisers seem more susceptible to being damaged by pulling on the cord or getting it caught on something.
Don't get a vacuum cleaner anywhere near them, try not to sweat too much on the pads.
You know, the usual. Oh, and don't play the music TOO loudly, bad for the phones and bad for your ears.

whats wrong with vacuum cleaner near headphones ?

I think DevilDog means that the cord might be sucked into the vacuum cleaner, pulling on the cord, which may damage it

Actually what I meant was you can suck the drivers out. It'll ruin them. Don't clean the pads with a vacuum cleaner.

gsferrari's tips

I use a mix of camphor in a little bit of coconut oil in the joints and metal parts to prevent rusting. To clean the pads I remove them first if possible and then wrap my hand in cellophane tape and press at the pads to remove lint, hair etc.

No vacuum cleaner or water etc. anywhere on my headphones.

Congratulations, man! I purchased mine about 3 weeks ago - I'm very satisfied.

I'd be more worried about your ears... tinnitus is not fun, trust me.

Don't stick around too long, or you'll soon be hunting for a decent amp to power those Senns... and then you'll want to upgrade your source... and then the cables... and then...
