Mython, I can appreciate the mSata option, but does that keep the price and size target too high? Plus, for a wider audience, would it not be more beneficial to use dual SD slots so mSD users can just use the full size SD adaptor to plug in their existing libraries.

Just to be clear: I don't mean including an mSATA memory card. Just providing a slot for one to be inserted by the customer.  I don't see why this would cost much to implement, although I am happy to be educated to the contrary.

I'm totally on-board with dual-fullsize-SD, in any event.

mSATA would be an almost-unique bonus (unique apart from the Aurender Flow). The point is that there is an opportunity to bring some useful rare functionality to this proposed device, which could expand it's appeal to more users in this relatively niche sector of the portable audiophile marketplace.

@James, and anyone else here: feel free to challenge anything I've suggested, if you know there are strong technical problems

I'm interested to know

Ah, I see where you're coming from. If there's no big hit on size then that would be great.

James, a pure transport would be a fantastic idea in my opinion. Don't include any DAC or amp. Look at all the users that have an ALO CDM, Chord Hugo/Mojo, Oppo HA-2, Shure KSE1500, and a few others. These are very popular and I'm sure if there was a user friendly transport for these devices at a reasonable price it would sell well. I imagine around $200 would be good and widely accepted if you get everything done correctly. Battery life should be fairly long I would imagine if not using a DAC or amp (my X5 gets around 30 hours using coaxial output) and a very large storage capacity is at the top of most people's list, especially if it's dual full sized SD slots.

It's a tough call for the operating system as I know there is a significant user base that wants to use streaming apps like Spotify and Tidal. No matter what you choose in the end I recommend you make a transport that outputs bit perfect data digitally with no DSP (except for a quality equalizer).

There are already enough DAPs in the market, including your X series. This would be great just as a transport.

DAC and amp is necessary so you can check out whether it is normal or not. of course, we will see more feedback about this.

Being a transport, the choice of DAC is left to the user. But how the connection to the DAC cannot be limited or compromised. Coax, optical, usb, bluetooth, wifi etc.

These ways of transmitting the digital data should not be compromised.

Is this going to be a network transport and DoP enabled on all digital outputs?

we will release a non-amped module for X7 so it can works as an network transport.

@JamesFiiO,

I guess I just don't see how - or even why - these are necessary if what we're looking for is a Transport.  I know you stated "...whether it will be popular if we make a new DAP which designed as transport." but it seems the majority of contributors on this topic want a Transport, not a DAP.

If we're going for a Transport, specifically, and not a DAP, I'm with Mython 100%. Especially with the addition of mSATA. Incorporate that in a $300 Transport, along with Dual Full-Size SDCard...holy cow...talk about the noise you'd make in the industry!  All of us have the necessary and beloved components to make this Fiio Super-Transport shine...and shine it would!

Bring it on!
