I was wondering if I bought the 02/odac combo if I could bypass the 02 and just use the odac with a different amp. Also what are some comparable dacs and amps in that price range if someone has a better suggestion for hd 600s.

You can bypass the amp using the DAC line out, but you will have to specify what configuration you want for the line out ( i.e. RCA or 3.5mm ). In either case you can take the analog signal from the DAC and feed that into any amp that has analog inputs. I think you can specify whether it ships in high gain or low. High would work better with the high impedance HD600.

Have you tried it with the HD600s yet? You may really like it and have no need to swap it out.

I haven't tried the 600s with anything yet outside of plugging them into my pc. I tried using my presonus audio box but that wasn't outputting enough. Do you have any opinion on whether the jds element is worth the extra money? I was just asking in case i wanted to experiment with some other amps down the road. Also can you bypass the dac and just use the amp? Thanks!

Not much for that price ever since the NFB-15 went out of production. There's the Pangea HP101 which is $99 now, and it's surprisingly good (I just won't pay $250 for it, which is what it originally sold for, but I got one for Christmas after nobody can figure out how to fix my Cantate.2 last year), but the USB drivers are really buggy (it works better with the native drivers on Android/NeutronMP). A little past that price point, there's the Valhalla2 and the Meier Jazz.

You can buy an ODAC standalone from JDS Labs or other sources (although I recommend JDS as a company). That way you wouldn't be spending anything unnecessary on an amp you aren't using.
