I bought these for around $115. i expected these to be actually be good from all the hype around it. I feel like these aren't really crisp and vocals aren't that good but what suprised me the most was the soundstage its better then to the open Hd558. I listen to mainly Edm pop kpop and there is not much bass and the vocals arent clear either kinda sounds dull and no details. i like neutral or sig like the dunu dn 1000 that sounds musical. The dunu dn 1k was the first headphone that actually suprised me with its sub bass and its amazing musical sound sig crisp and clear vocals with alot of details. Should i return these and save some money for chirstmas maybe see if i can buy used Hd600, shure 425 or akg 7xx something that can uprgade my fidelo or my dunu dn1k. You can see my sig of my favorite headphones and recommend me another if you like

I have heard the HD600 and loved them. I own both the AKG k701 and the M50 not M50x. I would say try to make the move to the AKGs.

The M50s are really overrated. The soundstage is nothing to write home about. The treble is very single layered and not complex. Vocals are clear but almost tin like. I noticed the hype on the M50s when they came out. Still you have people still getting these $115 dollar headphones and thinking they are better than they are due to lack of experience.

They have a bass color which wows people. That is about it other than also being well built and easy to find.

Sadly these M50 people are totally on a cause to spread the word. Spreading the word about a basic and boring $100 headphone.

If I was you I would try and look more for the newer AKG k series. The Massdrop AKG or the other new editions which are said to have a better bass response. Still I have no experience with the newer China made AKGs?

The trick is the AKGs are actually very hard to drive. An example is my Woo3 tube headphone amp. It sounds like paradise with the HD600s, but can not drive the k701s.

I ended up getting the W5 LE just to explore the k701s.

Still even though they do vocals amazingly right, there are other qwerky things about the sig, that causes a lot of fuss around here. I like the k701s and own two pair.

That's not to say I don't go on two month runs where I listen to more bass heavy headphones. Still I will break out the k701s today to listen to the new Star War OST as there is nothing better for Star Wars.

If you don't drive the AKGs right they can even get to sounding more thin. Still I took them to the beach and played the remaster FLAC of Stairway To Heaven out of an IPod Touch and a JDS labs c421 portable amp and made a friend cry?

I make sure to do some research on the new akg models

The later AKGs are easy to drive... but I just wanna check, you think the M50x's don't have enough bass? The K7XX are more like the even bass-lighter HD558 but with better extension.

I feel they are on the bass heavy side.

I was asking the OP.
are the HE400s worth looking at

Could be (if you mean the silver current model, not the old blue ones), but the bass extension isn't the greatest either. They're supposed to be pretty cool, haven't heard them myself.

I don't believe the m50x have a lot of bass. They seem really light. I heard that the m50x have a lot of bass but was quite disappointed when I heard it. I own some headphones that almost have no bass like the re400

Right. That's why I think moving to a headphone with less bass than the M50x might not sound neutral to you. It sounds like you're more of a basshead than a neutral guy - which is totally cool, our ears all hear different :). Check out some basshead threads for ideas maybe? I think the Yamaha Pro 400 might be worth looking into, or maybe the V-Moda M-100.

I will check out the m100's and the pro 400 but I prefer clarity and clean vocal over bass though but I don't mind being a basshead :). But the m50x had neither of them. I heard good things about the mt220. I am thinking about just upgrading my dunu dn 1000 instead of my fidelio X1 because I listen to my music more outside then at home. I did own the m80s the vocals weren't good but the bass was there but ended up returning them for the amperior that has the bass and great vocals.

The M50x has ridiculously boosted bass. (click) However, it doesn't have a lot of bass impact.

If you want more bass, you're getting into serious basshead territory. I would recommend checking out this thread:

My own strategy involves two headphone types: one for serious audiophile listening and another for extreme bass when the mood arises.

Also remember that you can always boost the bass of any headphone via EQ.

I tested out the m100 at bestbuy with there sample songs. the noise isolation is pretty good. I didn't hear any bass but it kinda sounds fun and I like that. It kinda lacks clarity and details imo and feels pretty bright but that's fine being bright. I also tested the momentum v2 and the m100 does everything better
