Audio-gd NFB-12 "DAC out" to Active Speakers.

I'm thinking about connecting my Audio-gd NFB-12 to my PC and use the "DAC out" on the back and connect them to my active bookshelf speakers. Basically just using the NFB-12 as a DAC and not use its amp. Thing is, I don't know what exactly to set for the settings on the NFB-12 to have it work correctly. I know I'll set it to "USB" and I'm guessing the "High" and "Low" gains don't matter. What confuses me is the "HP","Variable", and "Fixed". I know it obviously won't be "HP" since that's for headphones, so do I set it to "Variable" or "Fixed"? I would like to be able to control the volume from the computer rather than reaching out to the NFB-12 or my speakers to change the volume if that makes any difference.

By the way, does the NFB-12 need some sort of sound drivers plugging it into a PC via USB?

Thanks for the help!

if i am not mistaken, if u set it to FIXED, u CANNOT adjust the volume from the NFB12...

( i am using the nfb10...and i had it as VARIABLE...so i can adjust the vol from the NFB10)

i think it is "better" to keep it as VARIABLE...just in case the signal going thru is TOO LOUD???

others can chip in to give u better tech advice...i aint no techqie. :P

Got it setup now, "Fixed" is what I was looking for. Thanks!

By the way, is there any updated drivers for the NFB-12? Windows installed one automatically when I plugged it in, is that it?
