Turntable Mat Recommendation

Hi Todd,
What turntable mat would you recommend for a Thorens TD-125 with a Clearaudio Arum Beta cartridge? Thanks.

I know this was directed to Todd, but I thought I would make a suggestion. I've been using one of these for the last few months on my P3/RB-300 and I really dig it.

I highly recommend the RF absorbing Ersamat for Turntables by K Works.

Available from Todd The Vinyl Junkie.

It does an excellent job of reducing external noise picked up by
sensitive cartridges. I no longer have static issues and the noise
floor is much quieter. It is an inexpensive tweak that I highly recommend.

K Works also makes an excellent and inexpensive "Empowered Cord".
Inexpensive, that is, compared to much pricier cords it outperforms.
But it remains an excellent value at the price as well.

I've been using the Herbie's Mat and it works very well. Keep in mind that adding a mat requires you to set-up your table all over again, not just VTA.

Edit:scroll down the link page or click the "TT Mat" icon.

Thanks for the recommendation, guys. I had spotted Herbie's mat on the web and it sound pretty good, but I wasn't sure. I glad to see some guys here are using it.

YMMV

I too, recommend Herbie's Mat. It took away my static problems, is easy to clean, and sounds better than the Ringmat.
The thing with TT mats is, certain ones cause you to "lose" sound on certain platter materials, by absorbing the sound into the mat.
You have to experiment with your particular configuration. An example of what I'm talking about, is, with my OEM felt mat, the sound improved when I added a clamp, but I felt the clamp wasn't advantageous with the Herbie's mat.

Thanks for recommendations everyone. It looks like I may be adding another mat ( I carry the Ringmat) that is mentioned above soon. I am going to be testing one very soon.

Second this recommendation. This mat makes vinyl as quiet as I have ever heard it. Empowered PC is a real bargain, IMHO.

I highly recommend his expertise, products & value. He can be a hoot to
do biz with & the har har factor never hurts.

My dad has been using the Sleevetown mat which is anti-static and has a built in strobe. I was really impressed when I saw that it is constructed of carbon fibre and only costs $12.00 and $19.00 for two.

A short mat review is posted here and has some OK info.

The Ersamat is now also available at TTVJ! Thanks to Stevieo for the tip and the connection. And he is right about what it can do.

Turntable mats? Go to Home Depot...

I tried a few on a Rega P2. The best one? Go to Home Depot...

- Buy a piece of cork mat (it's about 1/8" thick). Also buy rubberized cloth.

- Cut both of the above to size (use a bad LP to do so)

This is the sandwich you need to make:

Platter -> Rubberized cloth -> Cork.

Very nice.
