Sony D-840 - Any experience?

Thread Starter
Saw one of these way in the back of a display case at a local Wal-Mart. Looked interesting, mostly because it looked like an older model which might have better "guts" inside than newer PCDPs. Also, comes with a wireless remote for use when hooked up to the (non-portable) power adapter.

Not much info on the web. Sony doesn't seem to offer PDF manuals online. They want you to order them at $5! One search turned up info on the 844K which seems similiar. Specs show headphone output at 20mW@16ohms. Not bad, but no distortion rating with that.

Anyone ever see or use one of these models? Is it worth persuing if I can get it at a good price?

TIA

I have the d-838K (also an older Car Discman - I don't know how this compareds with the 840) and really like the sound. Compared to the Panasonic 570 that I just got, it is a bit warmer with more bass. I actually prefer it to the 570 for the most part, though the 570 does seem to be slightly more detailed. I am driving Ety ER4-P's with it...
