I don't know what quite causes the delay, but every time I go to the Sony Building they tell me that upon ordering, you have to wait 3-4 months before they'll have the product ready for you. Perhaps they just aren't mass producing these?

Either way, I put in my order last week and they ought to be in in April. Otherwise, I don't know if you'll have much more luck with importers. Technically, I believe the Qualia stores are the only retailers of this phone.

last i checked (2 days ago), most of the big electronic retailers were sellling the w1000s in the 50,000 yen range. audiocube's price is pretty close. mail ordering in japan on the other hand, you can get it in the low 40k range.

To add to the previous suggestion of h-navi to help shopping in Japan there is also Rakuten and Kakaku.
I have linked you to the top most page of what contains the audio section.
You'll see the appropriate links on the left of both sites.
You will need some reading ability to get any use out of it but still, someone may find it useful.

..and almost 5 years later I am sure they have found a way to acquire a pair...
