Sweet, I'm looking at the HK P2000SK as my next possible purchase.

You're making a mountain out of nothing, really. People come on here to discuss guns, talk about hitting their targets on the head, yadayadayada, if you can't handle it, then don't enter. There's always gonna be a COD fanboy who'll say something like, "I prefer AK47 to M16 because AK47 has more damage and looks cooler", just disregard them. I reckon most of the guys in here are old and mature enough to judge right from wrong and they prefer to conceal carry instead of showing off that new shiny toy gun they just got the other day.

Deerp.

Agreed, I've own many guns for many years and never had the urge to show them off, brag, or much less discuss about them.

You know what, I started years ago w/ various 9mm and 40mm Glocks, HKs, Sigs and was issued the Beretta when in the service(Gag!).  I finally got around to working with the 1911 .45ACP and I'm not going back.  Just works for me in every way.  The only real drawbacks are low capacity and lack of penetrating (not stopping) power but that's fine for self defense under normal conditions and beneficial under potential legal conditions.  In other words your grand dad and those that won WWII were right.  We should still be using the .45 as we are the .50 M2.  Some things just were done right from the get go.

Here's the modern update to the 1911 for competition.  It's amazing how solid the 1911 platform is after all these years.

Wow!

I'm making do with the Springfield 1911 GI repop. I got the one with the stainless barrell. Not entirely authentic, but works fine. I've thought about having a smith massage it for reliabilty and accuracy.

And I had a 92FS for some years, so I know. Good enough gun - it never jammed or had a problem. But I prefer the 1911. Grandpa said the .45 ACP was like "hitting someone with a barn door." No personal experience, but I'll take his word for it.
