Just called up the buy.com volume purchasing manager. He claims the 379 price was a one day sale and the price is now $433. I asked for the price on a quantity of 15 and $385 was the best he could do and if I purchased more it would be $379. He wouldnt tell me what they purchase them at. So scratch off buy.com.

Damn and buy.com has a 15off coupon for new customers, I should have picked them up while they were on sale yesterday.


Theres still hope.

No way $379 was a one day only sale price. I kept an eye out for that CD3000 on buy.com, they must have had that $379 price for at least a whole week.

Buy.com is acting just like ecost, they price their merchandize according to how many clicks an item receives. I just lost all respect for buy.com.

Most likely yes, they got the wind that they can sell dozens of high-priced units and decided to raise the price.

I'd definatly be in if it was around $250 or so, i.e. a significant savings... but I will believe that when I see it. I'm thinking the best we're gonna be able to do is maybe ~$30 cheaper than the lowest retail or so... and for $30, i'll skip having my headphones and money both passed through a middle head-fier. I suppose hope springs eternal however.

You can get CD-3000 from etronics for $380 and you only have to buy 1!

I agree with skarecrow. I don't think you're going to find anyone willing to sell you these for much more of a discount than that. You have to remember that most stores are buying from wholesale distributors and both the retail store and the distributor has to make their money. A retailer doesn't care how many headphones you want to buy if he's losing money on each one.

This will only work if you find a retailer that buys direct that is "Head-Fi" friendly. Even then, getting a better price than around $350 is going to be difficult.

I used to work for a guy that owned a A/V store. I used to buy some stuff off him from time to time. Eventually though, I found that I could actually buy stuff below his cost if I looked around on the internet enough. Needless to say he could not compete on pricing with the internet or with the inventory of the big stores so he went out of business.

All the luck to ye, boys. But, like most ppl here, if you can get them down to $200~$250 sweetspot, I'd have to say I'm in as well... More or less.

I think a lot of the folks here were spoiled by the $40 CD780 deal some time last year.

Good luck though. You'll need it.

I don't know what they had said, or asked, Sony (Tyll or Todd) but the dealer I got mine from, both times (one now, and one about two years ago) Buy Rite electronics, they only get about 8-10 at the time, (B & H, only had 3 the last time in stock, as an original order, I saw the computer dispaly, they ordered only 3, and had 1 in stock left) and they do get them, and almost regularly, so it is possible, but maybe not at the price we are dreaming.
Now the price is another issue, how much they are willing to give us for a 20-30 order or bigger, well that is different....

Well I have another idea, well, in fact same as hirsch, but they are located here in NY, instead of Japan, why not contacting this guy (Tony)????? His price the first time IIRC was around 349.00...if he ordered ours, plus his usual amount (about 10 more) all in a shot, maybe we could get both a better deal.....he will get his at a better price, and we could get ours, and maybe let him even make an small profit on them....

IMO those two dealers hirsch mentioned, in Japan, both of them, are nice persons, honest, but their prices are in fact high, considering they are located in Japan. So thinking in them as a bussiness men, I don't think they will help us, but to try will not harm....
