I heard a rumor that those woodie -tweaked CD3000s sound alike up to about 80% of the R10s...is that true?

Not the ones I've heard. The CD3000 and R10 share a similar flavor of imaging, but their tonality and sound stage shape are quite different.

And the drivers are completely different (the most important thing) IMO to try to make a R-10 out of a CD3000 is plain silly, the cost of parts is extremelly different, so there is no way they could sound alike...If you want the R-10 sound, you have to get the R-10...there is no other way....

Ed, do you have an R-10? Or, do you just like hamsters wearing R-10s?

IMO, the R-10s are fugly. Still, I wouldn't mind owning a pair. HEH.

Oh he has 'em all right! I've been graced with their presence on several occations, and they are much less, uhm fugly in person, especially after you hear 'em

Once you hear the R-10s you will learn to give them the respect they deserve..

The R-10s sound magical... They are also much more beautiful in person than in pics on the web..

I wish I could own an R-10 based system with a matching source and amp !!

Don't forget that we're putting head-fi itself at risk here. This website isn't really "low profile" and people could easily find out what's going on. If the experts say that this is all well and good then fine, but we better be pretty sure of that before we proceed.
