Mojo thread filling up with reviews.

Dac' a plenty, don't envy having to choose just one..

But no reviews of King yet so more research from the experts here.

Gratz btw, looking at the 3f. 4 is a dream.. whatever you get I hope its end game.quality for you. Good luck..

The problem I have with the King is no balanced outputs, I have invested over 1k in cables all balance and not having the balanced option is a problem for an end game amp.

Ah.. Depends on your view of the chain I suppose. Pick a design around what you have or start from scratch.

The experts should drop an opinion in soon. Good luck though mate.
The fun is in the chase...

Amplifiers:

HeadAmp GS-X MkII

Auralic Taurus MkII

Woo Audio WA22

Schiit Mjolnir 2

DACs:

Auralic Vega

Schiit Yggdrasil

Schiit Gungnir

I ordered the Auralic combo but they had to cancel my order based on relations issues with Auralic. So now i'm back to square one! Any other DAC/Amp combos welcome! $5,500.00 is my current top end for the purchase.

Check out the Sim Audio Moon 430 HAD.

Heard some bad reviews when using IEMs with Rag and also a bad buzz when its turned off. Have you had any of these issues?

P4UL Look hard enough and you will find bad - and good - reviews for just about anything. Best is try to hear for yourself or - often not practical I know! - figure out the preferences, listening focus of those making the reviews and how they fit with your preferences/focus etc.

I thought we were talking about the LCD-4.

We are but I also want to have options and I just hear so much meh on the Rag as a Headphone/IEM amp. From what I have actually heard its great, but at a show your experience is so limited. The full image of a product can only be seen if you have time with it yourself, or from others experience. So since there are really no big audio dealers within a 2 hour drive, I have to go with the latter.

Just to expand a bit on my recommendation for the Yggr / Rag stack mentioned above.

I do not own this equipment.  I heard it at the Nashville meet in May, 2015.

I heard the stack drive the HD800, LCD-3F, LCD-X and closed Ethers.

The stack was able to drive all these cans to exceptional SQ.  It was the most refined sound I've ever heard from SS technology.

To be fair, I also heard the Yggr / Woo5 which was exceptional...but more expensive than the Rag amp.

All the equipment you listed above has gotten good reviews on Head-Fi.  Just IMO the Schiit equipment is worth a listen (if possible) before you decide.

Cheers -

RCBinTN

I certainly don't disagree.  I don't think the Rag would be my 1st choice for IEM's.  However, it's great for HP's even 20-ohm cans like the LCD-X.

I had a great experience driving my SE535 from my old Asgard2.  The sound was very nice.  Zero floor and perfect power level.  FWIW.

I own the Ygg and Rag combo, and while I haven't heard the LCD4s yet, I do own the LCDX, and they sound really good together. The Rag has a very punchy and clean, nuanced sound. Not as smooth and refined as the Liquid Crimson, but I do prefer to run the X on the Rag while my (modded)HE6 meshes well with the smoother sound of the Crimson.
I also don't get any buzzing when the Rag is off, but there is a slight hum when it's on, not any worse than the hum from a CFL light bulb though.

Thanks for all the awesome responses, I'm def considering the rag/ygg combo now. Got to wait on the hold on my account to drop form the auralics before I can make the purchase, but I'll let you know how it goes.

Just a bit of advice paraphrasing about listening before deciding.

5k on equipment is a big spend. A hotel and a day arranged with that dealer 2 hours away. Spend the day there, take the partner let her enjoy the day.. wondering about and share the evening. $250 dollars well spent.. for a day out and a true appreciation what your money can give you sound wise.

A phone call the dealer, can have what you think set up..Hi I have $5000 can I come and listen..lol

He will book the hotel for you with rose petals on the bed.

I hope you get nothing you think you want..
But everything you need Paul..

Good luck
Dave
