I have a pair of active speakers connected via a.phono cable to rca to a audio input switch box which then connects to my macbook via rca to 3.5

But I have another device with a volumw. control I would like to.use I have tried to.connect it the same way but the volume control doesn't adjust

This device is called Bt928 headphone. Pro amp.

If. This is the wrong.device, what would I need to control the volume.of the speakers rather then my macbook manually

so my current set up is speakers

yamaha hs7

phono to rca

urrently connected to a b tech bt31 3 way input control box which allows me to switch through difference sources i.e. headphones and speakers

rca to 3.5mm jack to my macbook

i want something which will allow volume control aswell have a headphone input so it cuts off the speaker

The Schiit Magni 2 Uber has preamp outputs so you can control the volume of active monitors with it. Naturally, it can also be used as a headphone amp. Take a look at the description and features here to see if it would be a good fit for you.

Just looked at your edit. It also cuts off the preamp outputs when you connect headphones. :normal_smile :

You could also use the Schiit SYS to switch devices and control the volume if you want to still use your existing headphone amp.

can i do with anything with my current set up?

the phono - rca from the active speaker to the output of the headphone pro=amp i have

and then input would be rca to the 3.5mm = macbook

i have tried it this way and it does work, but i don't have a 15v power supply. so i tried a 5v adaptor and the light comes on, but im thinking thats maybe not enough power to the control the volume. or will it not do it regardless even if i had the right power going through?

thank you i will check out your suggestions

Since active speakers already have amps inside them, I don't think you need any more power. It's just a connection issue.

ha i managed to get it work but via the headphone amp socket at the front and the volume works

so i connect phono - 3.5mm jack, but is there a way to get the volume control to work through the rca cable?

yeh sorry for the bad english...

i can control the volume when i connect the following cables phono from speaker x 2 to the 3.5mm stereo jack to the front of the BT928 HEADPHONE amp. it allows me to control the volume. is there a way to get the volume to work when connected via rca?

i also have the switch box which could be handy which has a 3 way input...

am i missing a cable? so i would ideally like the switch to work if listening on headphone or when plugged into the socket on the headphone pro-amp for the speaker to cut off.

I'm not familiar with your equipment, but I did used to own the Magni 2 Uber, which definitely does what you require.
