Question regarding 4 conductor wire and RCA connections.

I'm building some RCA interconnects using HGA RCA connectors and Canare Star Quad cable that I got from Tigger. The cable has 4 wires running through it and I only need two per connector. Do I simply not use two of the connectors or can I use all four cables by using both blue on the ground channel and both white for the signal?

Thanks,
Justin

Use the two blue wires for ground and the two white wires for signal. If you want to get really fancy, connect one end of the shield to the ground and use that end on the source. It should shunt any EMI to ground (although I have never been able to hear a difference).

Be sure to check out the excellent cable building sticky!

I would just double up on the signal and ground. Also I read somewhere that you should use the white for the signal and the blue for the ground.

Thanks for the clarification guys. I have been looking at the other thread you mentioned and it was very useful but I couldn't quite figure out this problem.

actually, it doesnt make any difference - both the white and blue wires are clad in the same insulating material and made of the same number and strand count of conductor.

anyway, Jam_Master_J, here's a tip: use something with a long hard tip, like a jeweller's screwdriver tip, for unravelling the braided shield - just 'comb' down firmly, but gently.
