BBS Scene

Hey guys,

Just curious, I wanted to know how many of you were involved in the scene (early on, or later on) as i was from the years 1990 to 96ish.

I know quite a few of you must be, as it's all too conveniant for us original geeks to get stuck on message boards again in our adult years heh. Also was anyone here involved in any ansi, or demo groups?

I deny everything - especially ever having attended the meetings of the Bayerische Hackerpost (Munich's alternative to Hamburg's Chaos Computer Club).

Grinnings from Hannover!

Oh, I thought you were talking about the bulletin board that was at the local store. When I was a kid you would post a note if you needed something at the local grocery store. Most often you would get a call but sometimes there would be a note or two back. But I see now this isn't what you were talking about.

I did frequent a few BBS's in the early days but those memories have faded. I do remember one that was all about cooking.

I wasn't that "adult geek" involved with bbs, but I did play alot of those games and get most of my parn from them.

ha, i would've expected more of you : ]

I ran one when i was like 12, I used to be what was known as a doodle boy, i made ansi art, and was involved with a few local groups, then when i climbed up the ladder to ice (real good group) it was all down hill from there. By the time i was 16 i guess i discovered some other things to do hehe.
Favorite Door games:
trade wars, Red Dragon Inn : ]

I ran renegade, visionx, then oblivion2. I Spent hours working on it, it was really all i cared about for a long time. It's funny how hobbies consume you, until one day you just get bored.

I was from I think '93 - '95... Win+ and Masterpiece

Back then I was Jasper w/out the 994 (which got assigned by hotmail and since Jasper seems fairly common it got kept).

Amazingly enough I met some very cute girls through Win+ meets... One of which was my first girlfriend.

I had no interest in demo groups or ansi art back then. I was more interested in playing computer games and modding computer games.

Ahh the good ole days of BBS'. The times we spent. The countless hours downloading... stuff. It was all about the Warez..

I actually brought one of my parn aliases back from the dead for free cds from bmg, so I can honestly say that the hours I spent watching one nudie pic load one line at a time, were well worth it.

I did some BBS'ing, but mostly Mudding and Mushing. There's still some Mushes around, if anyone remembers how to telnet.

Ahh, the days before Http, when you could only use Gopher, and you could read all of Usenet News in one sitting. Those were the days.

Thank goodness for BBSs within my local calling area. It was a fixed rate of a nickel a call, without that I'd be broke by now. Of course at the amazing pace of 300 baud, it took hours to get a floppy full.
