Perhaps, over the past few years electrolytics have been improving
in general, so the Black Gate performance/marketing edge has shrunk accordingly making harder to justify charging such a premium?

in the world of electronic components where volume is king, how on earth does a company come to be producing a component that costs many many
times that of its competitors, seemingly on the basis of subjective assessment

Who buys them and for what applications?
Surly it not just the finicky audio fraternity?
They even seem rare in production high end audio kit.
Perhaps its the likes of NASA or the military ?
If in the future one can end up paying a $100 for a 10uf cap on ebay ,the
debates on audibility etc are going to become very interesting indeed
