To paraphrase Leisure Suit Larry, "Buy early, buy often!"

People have been saying this for ages, but so far rubycon don't seem to know about it. I wouldn't worry too much yet

Have you contacted them?

Perhaps, over the past few years electrolytics have been improving
in general, so the Black Gate performance/marketing edge has shrunk accordingly making harder to justify charging such a premium?

The Black Gate phenomenon has always confused me anyhow ,
in the world of electronic components where volume is king, how on earth does a company come to be producing a component that costs many many
times that of its competitors, seemingly on the basis of subjective assessment .
Who buys them and for what applications?
Surly it not just the finicky audio fraternity?
They even seem rare in production high end audio kit.
Perhaps its the likes of NASA or the military ?

If in the future one can end up paying a $100 for a 10uf cap on ebay ,the
debates on audibility etc are going to become very interesting indeed

I've always wondered this also, surely someone else must have a use for them?

Uhm... this thread is 5 years old.

BlackGate caps are STILL readily available from PercyAudio.com, PartsConnexion.com, SonicCraft.com and others.

Well, to be fair, the Black Gates are no longer in production, and if you look at the models crossed out in Michael's catalog, they are becoming less and less available.

se

I recommend Nichicon Muse (FW, FG, EP bi-polar) and Elna Silmic II.

Yup, I haven't seen a HV one available for a few years now.

I hadn't either for quite some time, until I looked at Soniccraft yesterday...

Voltage Value (µF) DxL (mm) Price (U.S.$)
500 100 x 2 ♣ 35 x 120 289.95
350 100 x 2 ♣ 35 x 60 189.95
350 220 x 2 ♣ 35 x 100 289.95

Someone else can have them
