Sennheiser HD 630VB Review - First Impressions

I'm wondering what users' experiences have been with these headphones as far as durability and reliability? The Sennheiser website seems to make a point about marketing these for being a little tougher and more durable than your standard fare. Is that accurate? I commute to work (in an office environment - so the microphone/headset feature is actually quite useful for me) and would absolutely make these a regular companion if they hold up well outside of sitting in my studio (aspiring classical musician).

Thoughts from anyone who has owned these more than a few months?

Gonna quote this and leave it on the new page for people to see. I'm in a similar situation as far as having a setup at home that I like for listening, but could use something more rugged to bring to my cubicle at work. The headset feature is a nice touch, too. If this thing holds up well after a few months of use being thrown into a backpack or briefcase - and maybe if I can find a sale - I'll probably grab a pair this weekend.

I've had my pair about 8 months now.  They get used pretty much every 2nd day.  Very durable - no obvious signs of wear.  The only thing I might still do at some stage is convert the cable to detachable.  Its the only thing I'm not overly fond of.  Everything else about them I really love.

I've had mine for a little under a year and, frankly, love them...

However, recently I noticed a slight mechanical noise or distortion in the right cup so they've gone back to Sennheiser for repair. It may be a manufacturing fault that's only just materialised or I may have damaged them; I listen at silly loud volumes and my choice of music is very bass heavy! That aside the build quality is first rate, no cable issues and they sound bloody fantastic.

Just a little update on my repair...

I received a sparkling new pair in the post today

Looks like some kind of 8 or 16 pin molex picoblade of sorts.

  Hi All

Would these headphones be able to be driven properly by a Questyle QP1R DAP, without any additional amping?

Regards

Darren

Hey Darren,

You don't really need an amp for the HD 630VB as it has a pretty low nominal impedance.

I know this is the wrong thread, but how do these compare to the open backed HD700?

I was just able to listen to the HD630VB and HD700 back to back with the same digital source. The HD700 had a very wide sound stage, more pronounced treble, and had more crisp highs. The HD630VB were more focused, bass was more pronounced (but can be attenuated with the dial), and the highs were not as crisp.

A lot of people were complaining about the lack of removable cable - now that it's clearly removable, has anybody's opinion changed?
